You can make rissotto if you've got the right rice in the cupboard.
Take the chicken off the bone, make stock using the bones, onions(or leeks if you haven't got them) carrots and pepepr corns, some bay leaves and tyme if you've got it. Just use a stock cube if you can't be nothered with this.
Make your risotto, add the some chicken, peas and sweetcorn about 5 mins or so towards the end of cooking.0 -

Was it good? I'll add this to the Storecupboard Challenge thread to keep ideas together:rudolf: Sheep, pigs, hens and bees on our Teesdale smallholding :rudolf:0 -
Pleased with myself today - made a quiche using frozen leftovers of smoked salmon and cream, Welsh goats cheese from the fridge, and the last of the eggs :T
The pastry offcuts went into jamtarts using the last of the jar of HG damson jam.
For lunch I had 2 frozen English muffins and melted some brie, also from the freezer :j:rudolf: Sheep, pigs, hens and bees on our Teesdale smallholding :rudolf:0 -
well i hadn't joined this thread but have been doing this! I dont have much left though so will have to do a shop soon as running out of the 'basics' that mean i can make up things with whats left!
I am just defrosting a £1.09 whole chicken that i bought reduced the other week, then that will be roasted and I will make a curry, soup and possibly 1 other thing from.
I only have 2 teabags left!!
I have some mince in the freezer but not sure i have any tinned toms etc to add to iti do have oxos though so worst case scenario is mince on toast lol
I think i have enough to cover about 4/5 days worth of evening meals for me and hubby, however frm weds i will be working evenings so need to make up things he can finish off easily or it will end up being take outs.
I am tempted to pop out to tescos in a bit and get some tea bags and see what they have reduced after the weekend.

This is the perfect time for me to do this!! Am currently snowed in!! Last week purposefully didn't do a massive food shop as knew I had a good few meals in the freezer.
Have 8 old-style ready meals in freezer plus leftovers from last night.
Eggs
Tinned soup in cupboard plus hm soup on hob
Planety tinned tuna
Plenty ingrediants for HM bread
3 1/2 cartons of UHT milk
Plenty juice
Some ham and coleslaw for this weeks lunches
Husband has shopping list for basics to bring back if he can get here - I am in our house in the country. He still has his flat in the nearest big city which he is doing up to sell so if the roads are bad, he is staying there.
Am glad I didn't get too much food - can use up what is in freezer and isn't toooo full in case of a power cut!!
Have plenty coal and wood for fire.Plenty candles. Plenty books.
Snowy:j I feel I am diagonally parked in a parallel universe :j0 -
help??
hahaha..
I've got loads of dried beans that I'm commited to using. I bought them ages ago for 'storage' but that's no good if I don't even use them now is it?
So for tonight I want to make a bean dish...
I've got corn/flour bread proving to go with it.. but what kind of herbs or 'stuff' would you put in the beans to make them taste nice? I"m sort of looking for a stew like thing.
They are black eyed peas and another white bean with dark spots.. no idea what they are called. I've soaked them and am wanting to slow cook them into a nice stew with a lovely thick gravy to dunk the bread in.
I could add meat/stock but was really wanting to go for something veggie as beans provide enough protein that you don't need meat to go with it.
Can you all give me some suggestions please?
white beans with spotted - borlotti or pinto would be my guess.
Bean chilli is a meal in itself:
any beans (quantity depending on how many you are feeding - but it does freeze. I use 2x 400g tins normally)
chopped onion & garlic
tin of tomatoes
grated carrot
chilli powder to your taste
chopped whole chilli (optional)
t-sp of cumin powder & cayenne pepper
shake of salt
veg stock
fry soften onions and garlic until soft
and toms/carrot for a minute
add spices and stir
add stock and all the beans
Add or Substitute bell peppers / mushrooms if you have them or prefer them0 -

Hello, Im looking for a bit of help. I'd like to make some kind of sausage bake/casserole tomorrow and am not quite sure how to go about it.
I have about 6 sausages, tins of baked beans, tinned toms, sweet potato, normal potato, half an onion, and carrots. I also have half a packet of stuffing (not sure how this could be incorporated?!)
Would love to hear what you guys would do with these ingredients0
