Over the weekend we had onion soup made from stock from a frozen chicken carcase
I cubed some stale bread and made garlic croutons, and sliced the end of a French stick, melted cheese on top, and floated ten in the soup too.
On Saturday, DS and I had a curry made from small bits of leftovers - chicken curry, naan bread, raitha made from the last of the yogurt, a soft cucumber and the ends of some coriander.
Yesterday I made beef stew (from frozen leftovers) and dumplings.:rudolf: Sheep, pigs, hens and bees on our Teesdale smallholding :rudolf:0 -
help??
hahaha..
I've got loads of dried beans that I'm commited to using. I bought them ages ago for 'storage' but that's no good if I don't even use them now is it?
So for tonight I want to make a bean dish...
I've got corn/flour bread proving to go with it.. but what kind of herbs or 'stuff' would you put in the beans to make them taste nice? I"m sort of looking for a stew like thing.
They are black eyed peas and another white bean with dark spots.. no idea what they are called. I've soaked them and am wanting to slow cook them into a nice stew with a lovely thick gravy to dunk the bread in.
I could add meat/stock but was really wanting to go for something veggie as beans provide enough protein that you don't need meat to go with it.
Can you all give me some suggestions please?0 -
Onions, garlic, paprika, plenty of herbs (dried or fresh, whatever you've got in), a couple of bay leaves if you have them. You could use a bit of tomato puree or tinned tomatoes if you wanted, or sliced carrot if you didn't. Finely diced celery would also be a nice addition.
In terms of pure flavour, a bit of fried bacon, pancetta, ham or chorizo added near the end of cooking time would make a world of difference though.0 -
This is what I've got.
A whoopsie chicken (cooked) from Asda.
Mushrooms.
Leeks, spinach, carrots in garden
Peas, etc in freezer, sweetcorn, potatoes, other cupboard stuff
HM passata
Fed up with pasta
A DD who dislikes curry
My brain is frozen, I need some simple idea to make dinner tonight and hopefully do tomorrow too.Freedom is not worth having if it does not include the freedom to make mistakes.0 -
If you can make some pastry, and have some stock cubes in the cupboard, that looks like a chicken pie to me! Since the chicken is already cooked, though, don't use all of it for the pie, as it would all need to be eaten at the one meal. Perhaps the second day you could use the chicken and some veg and do a stir fry, or make a home made sweet and sour sauce to go with it, and serve with some rice........December GC: £3500

Mmm, I don't do pastry :rotfl:
Maybe the filling of a pie on mashed potato though, good idea
Stir fry, good idea, I think I have some noodles in the cupboard. See I told you my brain was frozen todayFreedom is not worth having if it does not include the freedom to make mistakes.0 -
Have you got onions?
Fry the onions, and the chicken; add cooked veg, and fry. then add cooled boiled rice, with pepper and a little stock - let the stock soak in and then serve.
Use the rest for potaoto-ey chicken pie.If you haven't got it - please don't flaunt it. TIA.0 -

We had risotto last night funnily enough.
I've just remembered (whoops) that DD isn't here for dinner tonight, so I'll make a super hot curry for us two and DS can have a bit of everything, cooked with a little bit of chilli. Looking forward to it already.
I'm now regretting not buying the curry secrets book I meant to do last month.Freedom is not worth having if it does not include the freedom to make mistakes.0
