  • One freezer down - one to go!

Defrosted small fridge freezer last night! Woohoo! Now empty and ready to be filled with the remains of the chest freezer.

Gave away sausage rolls, packed spring rolls into a bag instead of a box, got pasta bake out for today and lamb shoulder out for today.

Chest freezer is on the agenda tonight and will make a new inventory so I don't buy too much when I go and do my big shop Thurs/Fri this week.

On the store cupboard front - gave away a jar of mayo.

Also, been investigating the contents of my cupboards to assist with the surprise party buffet. Will be using up:

    large tin of pink salmon
bottle of hot piri piri sauce (for chicken drumstick marinade)
minty dry marinade (also for chicken)
LO onions from chutney making to make curry and chilli
    plain flour for quiche pastry
    jar of mayo
    bottle of sweet chilli sauce

I haven't posted on here for a few days as I've been quite unwell. One of the few good things is that I haven't felt up to cooking so I've used quite a lot of my freezer contents. I've used:

    - pack of HM ham stock (two portions of lentil soup made with the stock have gone back into the freezer)
    - half a loaf of rye bread
    - one portion HM mixed veg curry
    - one portion onion bhajis
    - one portion mini sausage rolls
    - one loaf of garlic bread (which turned out to be devoid of garlic :()
    - two tubs of milk
    - one pack pork and chilli sausages

Things are definitely looking emptier now!
Back after a very long break!
  • Failed to defrost the small chest freezer last night! But did use up lamb shoulder.

Quick tea tonight as I have a meeting. (Courgette & Salmon Pasta - using up courgettes and pasta from stores).

Freezer upstairs will start getting filled with party food tonight. But we are still going to defrost the other freezer tomorrow now.

Making a very careful shopping list for the month to come so that we use up what we have before stocking up too much.

I'm still trying to use up my stores. But I had a brainwave. I went through all the supplies and made up meals like "Brugers, chips & beans" and wrote them onto individual slips of paper. Then folded them up and put them in a box like a tombola. Each night we pick one out ready for the next day. The theory is I can make all the meals in there without buying anything other than fresh salad/dairy when necessary (and one or two odd veg items which might go off before they get used otherwise) yet don't have to think about it ;)

So far its working, and I've not changed anything we picked out except moved our "chippy night" to Monday night instead of the planned meal as I'd just spent 7 hours stood ironing and didn't have the energy to make anything :p

Potatoes and onions ? I have tons of both, as well as carrots and leeks. I need to cut the meat portions and use more veg - my elder son has been here twice and between him & the OH they've scoffed a whole weeks meat in 2 days. I dont actually like veg at all, so it needs to be hidden :D !

If I make stew or anything with mince (cottage pie etc) I use a tin of oxtail soup. It adds meaty flavour and you don't need to use as much meat.
