Ah thats why then - in this house we dont have any snack food, because if we do, we em, eat it. And he's diabetic and I need to lose a stone so we just dont have it ! :) We stick to 3 plain old-fashioned meals and then I keep well and so does he. If we start to eat nibbles then we tend to regret it ...
probably my son at home in his own place just nibbles away like a contented wee bunnywabbit :rotfl:

There's no particular nutritional advantage in eating double quantities of meals (like soup and mince etc) over eating a single quantity of a meal and a couple of sensible snacks tbh. In fact the meal plus snack(s) inbetween is better for keeping your blood sugar stable. I'm not talking about endless snacks of crisps, biscuits and sweets of course.

DS's continual complaint as he slams cupboard doors and rummages through the fridge is that, "There's no FOOD in this house, just ingredients!"

    Mine too!

Meanwhile, back at the veg ranch...

Slice a couple of onions and cube a load of potatoes.

Put some oil in a roasting tin. Bung in the onions and potatoes and zhuzh round to coat with oil. Sprinkle some herbs on if you have them. If you have any bacon, dice it and spread it among the potatoes. Give 'em another zhuzh round.

Put the tray in the oven for about 15 mins; turn; stick back in the oven for another 15 mins. When the potatoes are browned and cooked, take the roasting tin out of the oven, then break an egg (or two eggs) per person in the four corners on top of the potatoes. Put back in the oven until the eggs are cooked.

This is yummy comfort food - potatoes end up tasting like chip-shop chips (only small :rotfl:)

Bread, preferably wholemeal, fruit, plain types of yoghurt, small quantities of nuts or peanut butter, sticks of raw veg like carrots and celery, hummus, plain cereals, milk. That sort of thing. my kids come home from school starving every day, so it seems, and their usual snack is a couple of slices of HM bread with mashed banana and a tiny bit of honey as a filling, plus a glass of milk. Or peanut butter and banana filling.

My OH on the other hand would eat a six pack of crisps at one sitting so I don't buy them very much and if I do, I hide them from OH and ration them out.

Ok. We only have HM bread, he eats yoghurt, I put nuts and seeds through the bread.. So this means we are healthy!

I think all/most teenage boys have that view as DS1 (15) is always saying that; if he can't just grab and go there is no food.
    My self & hubby; 2 sons (30 & 26). Hubby also a found daughter (37).
Eldest son has his own house with partner & her 2 children (11 & 10)
Youngest son & fiancé now have own house.
    So we’re empty nesters.
    Daughter married with 3 boys (12, 9 & 5).
My mother always served up leftovers we never knew what the original meal was. - Tracey Ulman

I`ve made my own crisps, using a cheese slicer (the scandinavian kind, iykwim) to slice tatties very thin, then deep fry them or drizzle with oil and over roast, then sprinkle with a little salt. No fancy flavourings but they`re very nice and keep well in a dry tin for a few days. :)

My god they wouldn't last in this house...a crisp has a very short life expectancy in here !
