Store cupboard challenge

I am hoping to do a Storecupboard Challenge for March - not a NO SPEND at all, but planning to buy just fresh veg, bread, milk, eggs and cheese (will calculate a weekly amount and take it from there - any suggestions for a family of 4, of which two very hungry 20-years-olds? Thank you). The vegetables will come from the regular organic veg boxes and the eggs, cheese and milk from the milk delivery man. Bread is usually brought by DD's BF in for free but I shall also buy some sliced (also via the milkman).
I already have bulk amounts of grains (rice, pasta, millet, quinoa, barley, spelt, buckwheat) and pulses (chick peas, brown, red and green lentils, aduki beans). Also a fair amount of tinned tomatoes.
Lots of soya, oat and rice milk so dairy milk will only be a weekly pint for DD (nobody else uses it). Fruit will be apples from the Farmers Market.
I need to sit down and plan properly!
Aiming to run down the winter supplies and with the savings I am planning a replenishment of my cupboards for spring-summer with my next bulk orderFinally I'm an OAP and can travel free (in London at least!).0 -
Strangely enough, Caterina, I'm planning on doing exactly the same thing - I came on here to post my intentions and found you'd beaten me to it!
I restocked my cupboards after we had that really heavy and long-lasting snow as I didn't want to run out of essentials again, but I think I got a bit carried away.I will buy a last few bits when I get paid this week (mostly tinned tomatoes and beans, which I'm running low on) and should then be able to make it through March without buying anything other than my weekly fruit and veg delivery and my special (lactose free) milk (plus cat food, of course, as pets don't understand storecupboard challenge!).
By the end of the month I should be able to see the freezer and cupboard shelves - I can then do a bulk order and start the whole process again.Back after a very long break!0 -
Another day, another storecupboard challenge success!
I took some weetabix from the cupboard to work with me for breakfast, as I leave just before six and i didn't want the canteen fry up to call to me ;-). I put some nuts from the cupboard in a small bag and threw them on top.
For lunch I polished off the last of the hm bread with a tin of cream and mushroom soup. I would never buy that, and in fact I didn't; we went on holiday with the in laws to be last summer and mil2b bought it, then didn't eat it and rather unhelpfully shoved it in our bag when it was time to go home. It has been sitting there for 6 months so I decided to get it out of the way as the fact it is taking up valuable cupboard space was getting to me.
And for dinner, we are having pancakes. I decided this as we only have four eggs so they will go further, but then someone gave h2b some home laid eggs, so now we will have a mini pancake feast! I am going to have tuna, olives and mayo with mine, but no douby h2b and DS will be thinking about syrup and lemon juice! xI have had many Light Bulb Moments. The trouble is someone keeps turning the bulb off

all your food sounds so nice!!!
I didnt quite manage it today. I went to buy my milk and they had chopped toms for 25p a tin so got a few! well, they were cheaper than whole toms!!! :P and then i bought carrots even though i do have a freezer full, i want to make carrot cake this week when i get time. So £4.78 spent (my budget was £4 for milk). Not too bad I suppose! And in 4 days I think spending less than £5 is pretty good!!!0 -
Well I've done it again,I went to the bank and paid the cheque in and had ne temptation to shop whatsoever.
I took a book I got 2 chrictmases ago that I've struggled getting into and read that instead!!
Well done everyone.
If nothing else this week has certainly taught me that there is no need to shop everyday but on the other hand I wouldn't have a cupboard and freezer full if I didn't and I don't think I impulse buy I just stock up on things when they are on offer. Dog food, toilet roll, coffee etc.
Looking forward to leaving my purse at home again tomorrow!!
I may have to break the rule at some point this week because I shop for the old lady over the road so I can't leave her to starve but I will be buying on her behalf so hopefully that won't count.
Dreading the vets bill on friday I think I'll tell them I'm having a leave my purse at home week and see if that works haha.0 -
Hi everyone...
I am rather pleased with myself... all I have bought is a subway sandwich (it was a treat... and lunches weren't included...) and a small salad at work so all in all £2.65.
I really do need some sugar though.... come on Saturday!!! 4 days down and only 3 more to go...Man plans and God laughs...Perhaps travel cannot prevent bigotry. But by demonstrating that all people cry, laugh, eat, worry and die, it introduces the idea that if we try to understand each other, we may even become friends.0 -
Day 4 done aswell apart from neighbours shopping but she paid me with a cheque which I will put into the holiday account so really all I have done is save £10!!
Sausage and mash for tea, was going to have pate again for lunch tomorrow but it's helping geting the dogs antibiotics down her so I have forfitted it.
Big day at the vets tomorrow for lucy the least I can do is share my pate.0 -

Sorry I didn't get on here yesterday guys, had a really hectic day.
So, yesterday lunchtime I spent some money on some soup, I just couldn't face the cream of mushroom. But we use pre credited cards at our canteen at work, and the money was already on it so it was already gone if that makes sense!
Last night I cooked up some mince with allsorts of veg, threw some tinned toms and spices in, used up some old tacos and it was really nice, very pleased with myself!
Tonight I have been to Aldi to stock up. I think we are going to eat comfort food for dinner. I am really pleased I did this, as Ive made a list of all the food we need for the next fortnight with a meal plan and I'm hoping to try and cut costs. We shall see what happens!I have had many Light Bulb Moments. The trouble is someone keeps turning the bulb off
