Yeah that's it. Depends on how sweet your apples are as to whether you need sugar with them though. I like mine cooked in a big pan with lots of butter and cinnamon first, then a pinch of nutmeg in the crumble.0

I have some apples that have been looking at me every time I open the pantry door, how did you make yours?
Anything different to give it some zing? Or any suggestions? nothing dairy, a different spice perhaps.
How are your stores looking? How long do you have to eek it out for?
Sorry if I am being nosy.
I stewed the apple in a little water and sugar the made the crumble by guess work - marg, flour, sugar and I added some chopped nuts - yummy:)
My freezer and tins are ok for a couple of weeks but we've run out of fruit and fresh veg - got some tinned fruit, sultanas and frozen veg so that will have to do for now. I bought a half sack of spuds today so we'll be having lots of spuddy meals I think.
I've thought of these so far
jacket spuds,
chips
wedges
cheese and potato pie
potatoand onion sliced in layers cooked with some stock in the oven - not sure what its called
mash
fishcakes using tinned salmon or tuna
thats all I can think of right now but I'm sure you've all got more ideas:D
tomorrow DS2 and DH are having pork chops from freezer, mixed veg, roasters and possibly a yorkie each. I'm having a nice roast dinner at work:)Do what you love :happyhear0 -
Any idea's what i can do with tinned grapefruit? i don't even know why i have them, most likely some failed diet attempt.0

For breakfast today I had oat so simple. Not something I normally buy...tesco value porridge oats are more my style...but I found them in the back of OH's cupboard so thought I would use them up. They were 13months out of date but still perfectly fine!0

hello!
today I am making leek and potato soup with some cheap Aldi leeks and we're using up some YS seeded rolls from Asda - bit manky as they've been in the freezer a while but I'll pop them in the oven to freshen them up. I've also made some peanut butter cookies with some of DSs old PB.they are cooling atm so looking forward to trying them:)
I'm out for tea arranged a while ago so DH is using some frozen SF chicken and fries up as he loves that.Do what you love :happyhear0 -
Sounds lovely taplady
Does anyone know if you can use mozarella cheese and just cut off the bits that have got discoloured?MFW 2016 No 68 £1300/£8500 No new toiletries Cook sth different0 -
skaps - never used Mozarella but I would think like most cheeses that its ok if you chop off the old bits:)
Today I'm making bubble and squeek with the cheap cabbage I bought and some of my spuds. DH will have it with some frozen sausages and I've got half a tin of beans to use up. Also need to bake something depending on what I've got in the cupbioards to use up.Do what you love :happyhear0 -
Hya tappie
I did a baking session last night...4 dozen buns...and over 100 (!) hobnobs. I am having to rearrange the freezer to get the surplus into it...they should last us well into next week (longer with the hobnobs)
I am going to make breadcrumbs out of the loaf heels lurking in the bread-bin, and will use some on the fish for tea tonight. I cook them in the oven "dry" as well as the chips...an easy and economical meal. There is a bag of bread bits in the freezer (loaf had stuck in the tin ), some of which I will make into bread and butter pudding for our pudding tonight...without any butter/marg/spread....so lots of bits being used up today. Will also make a crumble with the apples and pears I stewed yesterday (all going soft in the fruit bowl!), it tastes great on its own with a few sultanas in...no added suger, but will be sooo scrummy with crumble on....DH and I can have it tomorrow or Friday...shouldn't have puddings two days in a row!
Right off to get things done....have a good day everyone.

My DD seems to have her head screwed on better than me when it comes to food ATM so I'm going to challenge her to come up with some meals using only whats in, then we're going to have a go at Weezl's latest menu plan thing - £100 for a month for 4, yes there are only two of us so it will be tweaked a little but I'm going to see how long I can make her menu last all in the name of science/frugality of courseCreeping back in for accountability after falling off the wagon in 2016.Need to get back to old style in modern ways, watching the pennies and getting stuff done!0
