I forgot to take the steak out to defrost before leaving for work this morning.

Oh... how many times have I done that. And why do I have to realise on the train and not just as I'm about to leave the house?

Not been on all week due to being depressed about potential of strike by BA cabin crew ruining our long planned Christmas hols........however did manage to be good and stick to the meal plan  and use up more freezerland stuff.

Needless to say since late afternoon we have been greatly relieved by the news the strike is now off and can now officially start to get excited :j

Have 2 GDs staying Friday & Saturday so a few treats bought in for them but will use up more of the steaks from the freezer as they love their meat ;). Also have DS2, DIL & GS visiting on Saturday delivering / collecting Christmas pressies so good opportunity to do some baking and use up some of those supplies, thinking Nigella's Rocky Road as the girls can "help" make it ;) and low fat chocolate brownies as they are easy.

So a busy but really nice weekend to look forward to and won't need to go near the shops thankfully.

Need to catch up with everyone's else's posts now :D

Obviously the quantities will make a difference, as well as what you've got in your cupboards

Use stewing steak, chopped onions, carrots and white beans to make a rich stew

Toad in the hole & chicken nuggets can be quick meals served with lots of veggies

Steak - slice into strips, marinate in soy sauce, lemon/lime juice, honey & olive oil, then stir-fry with lots of veg and serve with rice or noodles.

Seeing as you have two lots of steak, slice the other thinly to make 4 (or more depending on size) steaks. Fry with the exotic mushrooms and add a splash of cream to the juices. Serve with roast potatoes & veggies.

    bananas - make banana bread

spinach - I usually use frozen spinach in veggie lasagne, or sweat with some onions and add milk to make soup

Have muffins for breakfast for a change. Delicious toasted with marmite, or with a poached egg and slice of crispy bacon.

Duck - assume this is whole, so eat it as a roast, then use any leftover meat shredded to make a delicious salad, and boil up the bones for a rich stock.

Blackberries - add to porridge or yogurt and muesli for breakfast, or to yogurt as a light pudding.

sausage rolls/wrap - have for lunch with some salad

I'm currently working through the contents of my freezer. Apart from needing to get the odd bit of salad/dairy and greenery, I haven't had to do a proper shop for ages!

Thanks for posting - I'm going to take some of the advice for 2010 after trying to empty some space in my freezer for post-Christmas bargains in the supermarkets.

BTW -Frozen bananas - perfect for baking muffins etc.
  • Hello Princess Lou, interested to see how the two weeks eating out of the freezer goes. It's a trap for food, I find - I often eat the things I most recently put in there, and am always meaning to keep a proper freezer checklist. I did once, for a while!...

I always seem to lack space in the freezer. But I'm thinking that the boxes I got for freezing soup, are too big. They take up lots more room than the soup inside them, but I didn't want to keep using freezer bags :-( Will work on that.

Thank you for sharing the tip on freezing made sandwiches and rolls. I freeze HM rolls all the time, but never thought about freezing them made. With something like cheese and pickle I guess they will thaw fine :-)
