lynzpower - your post made me laugh - some days nothing goes right ;)

I've been trying to clear the freezer but I'm afraid it's now chocka again as bought 2 lots of Mr M festive feast deal :o, having pork today for tea and other one frozen for January when having all the family over after we come back from Greece.
Peeled and prepped all the veg and par boiled the potatoes and froze them too - so organised it's scarey :D
Also bought the half price leg of lamb in S*merfield last week which is taking up space.
We don't need to buy any food for Christmas, in fact have plenty in until we go away on 23rd and enough to feed us until then too.
So should be able to chill a bit for the next week with only Christmas presents to deliver to the family next weekend to be done and the Euros bought...great :j

I've sorted my herby/spare mugs cupboard and came across a few packs of 'strange teas' that OH bought and never got around to using.

Just wondering if anybody has any ideas for '2 packs of Yarrow Teabags', 'Dr.Stuart's ' and 'Swirling Mist White Tea' - the mind boggles as to why he bought them in the first place!

Maybe he will drink them, as part of a New Years resolution ;)

    Hello gang-

has everyone stopped using up the store cupboard  and started shopping for Xmas :D

Well we havent ;) So are trying to carry on regardless- few schoolgirl errors for me over the last few days...

I'm glad I'm not the only one being a bit fuzzy this weekend. I've just gone into the kitchen to put the BM on, and ended up standing there looking round the kitchen for several minutes trying to work out why I'd gone out there. I only remembered when I read your post about making fruit loaf. I think I'm suffering from Christmas-itis!

I don't know about the yarrow ones, but the others might be OK for soaking fruit for a cake or fruit loaf or something? I've never tried either variety myself, though, so that's just a guess!
    *************

I haven't used up a lot from my freezer / cupboards this weekend - the only thing is a ham hock which is defrosting for dinner tonight.
Oh well, never mind - I've got the Christmas decs up and most of my shopping done, so the weekend hasn't been a complete write-off. :xmassmile

Back after a very long break!

I didn't think I'd really been using stores - but I have space in my freezer - you can easily shut it now - whoo hoo!!

We had friends to dinner on Sat. Normally I go OTT when cooking for people, but I made cottage pie with 2 packs of steak mince from the freezer, a jar of baby food carrot & potato (! - it was free), pureed sweet potato from freezer (under the mashed potato) & mashed swede from the freezer. I did have to buy 3 more lemons and double cream to make the Economy Gastronomy lemon cream for pud, but I had blackberries and raspberries in the freezer from 2008 for the compote - so that was a bit more out :D Only 1 portion left of the pie (I made a big dish and a little dish) for the freezer, too, as kids had some yesterday.

I do have some of the but not for long! I have some compote left too (even though I didn't make as much as the recipe said) - but that'll get used on ice cream :D

  • So sick of cooking!!!! Baking etc...for fundraiser at the weekend has totally wacked me out!!

2 portions of veg pasta bake and 2 portions of leek and potato soup left over, so those have gone in my freezer! 3 chicken carcasses, 1 portion of pastry came out - so about back where I started.

On the bright side will be taking spag bol out tonight for tea.

Have also used up all the odds and sods of veg in the fridge (to make chicken & veg soup and veg pasta bake); and the odd half a jar of mincemeat has now gone from the cupboard.

Stocking back up on meat at the weekend, so only have till Thurs to get as much out of the freezer as possible (at whick point I must defrost!!!). Going to tidy up the cupboards too and see how much room that makes.

  • I imagine that most people are going to give up now till after Christmas...too much tempation in the shops.

I will be good until Saturday when I will re-stock on the meat front.

Going to make it a new years resolution to not buy too much of what I don't need - need to try and strike that balance where we have always got meals in the freezer, but don't overspend on lots of things that we won't use for months (if ever).

Probably will be making a new list in January of what to use up...lets see how it goes.

If I'm not back before - Merry Christmas to you all.

  • this month have set myself the challenge of using up all the stuff in the dry/can cupboard and freezer rather than leaving it there to go out of date!am still working at it! today I used the last tin of mandarin oranges to make jelly for dd for pudding and lunchbox.took 2 hot x buns and a lemon drizzle sponge out of the freezer today, they'll either be eaten as they are or i'll do some custard to go on the sponge for a pud or might do bread and butter pud with the buns..

I'll be venturing into Freezerland tomorrow to look for frozen veg as I used up the last of it in my house freezer when cooking tomorrow night's dinner, this evening.

I also need to add family dinner's worth of bolognaise in there :o. I made it for tomorrow night and batch cooked it, whoops! Oh well, at least it's an easy dinner for another day
    .

And.. it seems like the more I delve in there the more bloomin' meat I find
