I find that a credit limit of £6700 for a clothes shop is ridiculous,if your husband had any sense he would ask them to lower his limit.

Totally and utterly ridiculous, I think £500 is sufficient and £1000 at an absolute tops, if you wanted buy a couple of decent suits.

Anyone owing £1,000's on store cards need to take a hard long look at themselves.

mine started at £300 1st month, 2nd month was £150 and now this month is £600. In between month 2 and 3 the only difference to my credit file was the addition of a £6000 loan, so why multiply the limit by 4? I would like to be able to ask for a static limit of no more than £1000 so I know where I stand at all points and get a clear agreement, we will only put it down if for instance you go into x number of months arrears on another credit account etc. I always pay it off in full anyway, I am not daft enough to pay their high interest rates.

I think we should collectively be writting to Vince Cable MP about this, so that we have some degree of financial certainty for say the next 6 months. So that Barlcaycard cannot without clear reason suddenly reduce your limit, you would have to have a list in advance of all the reason why they would be able to do it so you know it is coming and can budget for the future. I am sure there are loads of other things about uncertainty he could help on.

Apparently I've been "pre-selected" to apply for a Vanquis card... I take it this is just a marketing stunt - would I have any more chance if I applied using this than online? As it's got a reference number for me..... But I don't know if it means I'm now borderline or they've mass mailed it to everyone without actually looking whether they'd have a chance?

I love the bit that says "pay in shops and restaurants..." where I live... that's lovely to know, but I'm never there! :D

No incorrect you havent been preselected, its called marketing and your details will either have been gleaned from a bought in mailing list or from any previous dealings youve had with them or the provident financial group.

Have you had a provident loan before if so your details will have been used in whats called cross sell marketing activity.

You will still have to go through the same credit check as every other vanquis customer and you will have no extra special chance just because you have been "preselected" as stated on the marketing material.
Yea I assumed it was that. I've applied for Vanquis before and been declined, thought they may have re-checked me and decided I was borderline or something - but yea thought it was most likely it was mass marketing rubbish.

How do you apply to Vanquis without a landline? I'm awful with remembering names, but someone on here said they'd done it before and told me but the search won't pick it up :(

The vanquis product doesnt need a landline despite what people may tell you;),they simply need telephone contact and this CAN be on a mobile phone, landlines are preferred but as long as initial telephone contact is made that is acceptable.

Why do you want a vanquis card anyway Zack1?

The form says, in big red writing "it is essential for us to have a landline number" - that's why I thought there must be some special way rather than simply ignoring it - I don't want to get auto declined for doing it wrong! I remember someone has said about it before though, just can't remember who

I want it so I can get rid of Capital One and their non-existant credit increases
