I went in a web chat online with HSBC to ask them what happened to the account I applied for a while ago.

Gurpreet>it is conditional because you have a marker that stops you from doing lending therefore all you need to do is go into branch with ID and they should be able to agree the account.
Me>Ok will this marker be on the account forever or will it be removed after good use/improved credit report?
Gurpreet>it on your gap year account and if you ask for it to be removed they will do that in branch also.
Me>ok... can i ask how this affects the new account that i've applied for? will there be no lending on that account as well?
Gurpreet>at the moment that is the case. However after three months you can apply for lending then.
Me>ok... also my cheque guarantee card was replaced with a standard debit card. the branch told me this was because my 'behaviour score' dropped... can you tell me what my score is or if i am eligble for a cheque card yet?
Gurpreet>that you will have to check with the bank, your score is currently 53 out of 100 so your doing okay now.
    Me>ok thanks for your help.
Gurpreet>not a problem thankyou for contacting HSBC.

53/100 - Shouldn't that allow me to have a cheque guarantee card on my standard bank account? I recon that because my gap year account has a no lending marker on it, this is the reason they wont give me a CGC.

My understanding mate is 50 is for an account, 60 for CGC/OD (i.e. full account) or it may be 55 - will check later and post back (got a mate there) :p

Apparently 50 is for CGC... :p
I already have an overdraft. :)

50 is for the full account, yes (got a text back). That includes CGC and limited overdraft. Hmmm, it may be the fact you opened that other account mate - why oh why didn't you just leave things be lol ;)

I'll just close the gap year account. Simples!

I've just been on Halifax Online banking (I took money out my ISA and now can't put it back in as I've basically hit the limit so looking at interest rates for other banks), there is an "offers for you" section, saying "no offers for you at this time". Is that the pre-approved stuff people talk about? If I chuck a few grand in the Halifax account and move it to and from my other accounts (so they see "bill" payments) and start actually using the Halifax card is this likely to get me decent offers (based on higher internal rating?)? Is there anything else I can do? I've had nothing in there for ages, so would imagine my rating with them is very low! And how long would it take for it to update?

Also I noticed A&L have this. Would anything decent be offered through this? (i.e. Credit Cards!?!? :D)

I called HBoS (again) and was told my application was still at the 'pending' stage - she advised me to wait the full 14 days and was quite abrupt about this, anyone has any similar experiences with HBoS applications?

Edit: Just called them again, spoke to another bloke, said that I now just needed to deposit £100 (seems like a high amount) and they will open the account and send my CGC out.....so I shall deposit the £100 today :-)

Vanquis statement produced 10 December with no increase. Looks like I will not be given another one. Ah well. I will have to resign myself to not getting the elusive gold card.

The reason they ask you to deposit £100 is because your cheque guarantee limit is £100
