There were a few posts a while back where it was said that a Lloyds TSB classic account card beginning with 4921 was an 'offline' card. This is the same as I have on my classic account card, but noticed that my 16 yr old daughters card also starts with 4921.
I have just noticed now, after scrolling through some other threads on here, that the new purple visa CGC from Natwest starts with 4751, which is the same as my 2 blue visa cards, one from a basic step acct, & one from a current plus acct.
So, my point is, do the first four digits of a debit card decide whether it is an 'offline' or 'full auth' card (which looks doubtful now) or is it in the chip or something?
If so, I think we really should be told by the bank, as there are quite a few threads where people are encountering embarrasing situations when their card is declined.
Sorry if this is a bit O/T, but it may be of some interest.

I got half way down to England and someone crashed in to me. My car has to be written off but on the bright side, the curtsey car is being delivered today and can have it for up to 59 weeks.

I was sat stranded in the middle of no where for hours. The police had to send out a rescue helicopter to find me as I couldn't give them my exact location. Insurance company has contacted the solicitors to claim compo, so it's not all bad. :D

Sorry to hear that mate. Have you any adverse with Equifax? Proliant/Sutton/others...did you have some adverse data on Equifax or on Experian?

I am trying to work out whether you do need a clean Equifax file to have a chance as it is stated on their website that the applicant must have a clean credit history..ie no defaults.

noah i had one default for £350 showing as satisfied but debt assigned from 2005 on equifax and sygma gave me instant online acceptance :A

    Hi Everyone!

I've been following on here for a long time and decided to bite the bullet and register.
About 5 years ago I left my boring job to go back to college however I didn't think about how I was going to pay my outstanding debt - irresponsible I know, needless to say I messed up, default payments etc. I managed to get on track and pay off my two credit cards (capital one and sygma), a personal loan and a JD Williams account.
I have had a look at my credit file - credit expert free 30 days thing and I have 4 agreements on my file 3 of which (oli account, current account with no overdraft and my vodafone contract) are all green. I do however still have default that is 2 years old from littlewoods account, I've had an awful time with the collections people as they would only accept card payments and charge me for this privilege. They continue to refuse to set up a direct debit or standing order.
That's my credit history so far - here comes my questions.
I want to start to build my credit file back up, my oli account has a £1950 limit and I have about £650 on the account so far, which I will pay off fully over the coming months.
I've started to apply for some sub prime credit cards.
Aqua card have 'accepted' me :T and have sent a CCA which I have signed and returned - not holding my breath because......
    I also applied to vanquis.
Vanquis have gave me a call back, confirmed more details and ask for bank details to set up a direct debit. I called them back out of curiousity (why take my bank account details and not give me a decision) and the lady has told me that I was declined.
I applied for capital one directly after Vanquis and they haven't got back to me.
Am I totally scuppered?? Should I pay off my default entirely before I try to reapply? I am about to open another JD Williams account as I didn't have any trouble with them before, will this improve or hinder me??

May I also say that those who take the time to answer these posts are salt of the earth. I wish that when I was digging a hole for myself with my debt I had found helpful, informative forums like this. Live and Learn though!!

Yes I am thankfully. Nothing more than some whiplash and a minor head injury.

Hi Spiritual, maybe I wasn't clear, I already have a vodafone contract, I'm not interested in getting another one LOL :rotfl:
The current account you're talking about I already have, it's just a basic current account, no overdraft, maestro and link card.
The only thing on my file which is adverse is my default, everything else looks good.
Vanquis have given me a straight up NO, but Aqua sent me a CCA, has anyone been declined after signing a CCA??

Anyway, it is Thursday - I'm off work tomorrow! YAY! Going to spend my day in Glasgow west end pretending to be a Wendy :):o
