Yeah that's the one. I know some people are opposed to having one, but my brother just received his and it looks really top notch! You can use it to travel anywhere in Europe (EEA, EU) so it would be fun to have one and just use that instead of passport.

Surely you'd still need a passport mate? or is this just in the EU?

It says this on the home page (availability)
The first identity cards were introduced for foreign nationals living in Britain in November 2008. Citizens living in Greater Manchester can now apply for an identity card (new window) on a voluntary basis, and they will become available to the wider population in the North West by early 2010. We will make the cards available to the full population from 2012.

    Other site is here: http://idsmart.direct.gov.uk/index.html

Yeah it is available to those who have a passport, which i got. Might apply for one very soon... i can use the card and put in my wallet instead of bringing the passport papers wherever i go!

Cheers for posting the pictures of the ID card. That's exactly what my brother got. It looks more impressive in real life, but whether i should pay £30 quid for having one and be on NIR for life with my fingerprints and personal details, i'm not so sure.

I'm not mate - I like having some privacy....... but as I have nothing to hide, if it became mandatory then yea, I don't see a problem with it. After all, they can help catch criminals quicker assuming they have our DNA so yea - I agree with them in one respect but doesn't mean I think I should have to 'pay' for one :D:D

I'm not sure if I've posted this in the right thread but I noticed that some of you have an account with Very. My friends wants to buy something from there using the pay over 3 months pay no interest option, she doesn't want a credit account. Do they do a search for the pay over 3 months option?

She has struggled to get herself straight and doesn't want any searches on her credit files for a few more months so if they do search she won't bother.

Yes they will search - basically it is credit so unfortunately yes, a search will be performed (Equifax). :p

Thanks, I'll let her know. I had a feeling they would still do a search but she couldn't find anything on their website, most info seems to be for the normal credit account.
