Mate that is a crappy spec! Are you on about self building it?

But a laptop for half that amount, desktops are way outdated and the £1000 you spend will never be recouped when you build desktops.....

Just my opinion, but my sony vaio and my dell laptops are both better specs and both cost less - in fact both together would be cheaper.....

Niddy I think you need your eyes checking mate!

Hardcore gamer me won't ever do that on a Laptop! You've got to be nutz???

Show me a laptop with a 3.4GHz Quad Core processor, 8GB DDR3 RAM, 2x Radeon 5770's, and 2x 1TB Hard Drives in RAID 0 for under a grand and I'll buy it for you. That's how confident I am you're wrong.

    Go on, find!

EDIT: Besides, my laptop is the very last Thinkpad made before IBM became Lenovo. A Thinkpad T43p and you will have to pry it from my rigor-mortis fingers before I give it up. Spec might be a wee bit antiquated but this beauty is built like a brick !!!!!! house and I've fixed many a Dell and Sony for friends - build quality is in a different reality!

They said if my first purchase is over £165 I get it at 0% for six months, so I'm thinking, £995 on a new PC; seems like an ideal opportunity to replace the ageing old box without paying interest...

    EDIT: Already specced him up:

No need for a monitor as I already have a 24" Full HD and 19" TFT; sounds are covered by way of a Rotel amp and Kef speakers so no need for some shoddy Logitech boom box crap ;)
nice set up can you get me one :rotfl::rotfl:

Tried for a Sygma card lately? They are probably the most lenient prime lender on the market AFAIK...

My mate runs a PC outlet for trade in Bradford mate - I could get you your set up for less, lol (assuming they have the same parts you want)..... :p:p

I have had many desktops (bear in mind i'm almost double your age lol), they devalue the moment you build it and also you'll never be able to fully utilise it - my gamer desktop is top end, shark casing, DFI Lanparty mobo and OCZ ram - all guaranteed for overclocking.... thus i'm more advanced in my set-up, i.e pointless buying 4gb ram sticks when you buy 2gb and o/c them! :D:D

Plus 8gb won't affect much you do gaming wise from a standard 4gb (2x2gb) overclock....

Did I say mine also runs on thermaltake water cooling.... 12 degree static (CPU) temp (excellent)....

Ahhh good you know your stuff then! Awesome. As regards to Value, I'm not in it for an investment financially, just entertainment. I accept that keeping my rig up to date is £333 a year that I'll never see again. One has to be resigned to the inevitability of depreciation quicker than you can sneeze when building a gaming rig

I opted for the Crucial RAM rather than OCZ or the like as, despite the lack of heat spreaders, they use excellent chips that are good for a hefty overclock:

    http://www.bjorn3d.com/read.php?cID=1424

As regard to the motherboard, this too has topped the previous AM3 overclocking champion:

    http://www.overclockersclub.com/reviews/gigabyte_ga890gpa_ud3h/7.htm

And it's Hex-Core ready when the time comes (very useful when Full-HD gaming and transcoding Blu-Ray to Matroska in the background - tasks that my current dual-core rig crumbles under).

They are 2GB RAM sticks so overclocking should be good, if I feel the need, but having 8GB allows for the RAM used when - as mentioned - transcoding HD and gaming simultaneously.

For a grand I think I've found a good balance between default performance, quality, and overclockability, but if you have any suggestions keeping in mind the budget I'm all ears :):)
