    Hiya

Really? Have you considered SARing CIFAS? For Barclays to reject a basic account suggests fraud - that's the only reason they decline people normally..... ;)

I did have a wrongly-placed CIFAS from Sygma but it's dropped off now - and I got my Capital One card in August fine. I applied for both Halifax EasyCash and Co-Op Cashminder at the same time as I went for the Barclays and I got EasyCash with no problems, Co-Op took very slightly longer but it was fine in the end. Theres no CIFAS on there now but I have no need for the Barclays account now I have my full A&L current account, 2 back up basic accounts and my Capital One card.

    Hello all,

Just an update as I read all your stories (from this first thread to now) so thought I'd share instead of lurking!

I've had a Vanquis card (£250 CL) and Capital One Classic (£200 CL) for 3-4 years and the limit has stayed same over that period! I've tried different methods from spending a lot and paying all, to leaving a balance and paying whilst accruing interest - nada change apart from a rate increase, higher of course.

I've had a Barclaycard Initial for slightly longer, started at £260 CL. In July it increased to £510, today it's been raised to £1020. :T
I'm now hoping to get one of the existing customer cards (I started another thread about it).
Fingers crossed I'll be chopping up my Vanquis card soon too!

I've also recently manged to get a full CA from Barclays with a £50 CG Connect card; I had a Premier account with A&L but the debit card didn't work some places (e.g. train) despite A&L stating that it is a full VISA debit. So A&L will be used as a back-up account in case Barclays turns sour.

I also opened a JDW account in December. £125 CL to start, was raised to £350 this month.

  • Hello all,
thought I'd share instead of lurking!
    Me too.
I've had an A & L Premier Direct account for nearly 3 years, a Capital One card (39.9%, limit £500) and a Citicard Platinum (29.9%, limit just reduced from £2000 to £1750) for 2 years. Over the course of 2009 3 or 4 bad defaults dropped off my credit record leaving 1 thing; a CCJ for £230 from September 2005. I've considered myself pretty lucky to get the facilities I have. In January I applied for an overdraft facility from A & L, something I periodically do 'for a laugh', but I was quite surprised (after umpteen refusals) to be accepted for a £100 limit. I then applied (again, and I know I shouldn't, something I do every so often) for a Santander Zero CC. This morning I got the agreement to sign and return! Mainstream baby!
I just wanted to say that over the last couple of years this thread has and does provide an awful lot of help, encouragement and amusement for a lot of us who are, mainly through our own fault, at the foot of the credit ladder, and to thank everyone for the advice and suggestions.
Thanks on behalf of all the lurkers.

I was a lurker for ages before I got brave enough to bite the bullet

nearly everyone on here are so nice and so informative, i've been informed how long defaults stay on my file, what cifas are, and other than the few smug, bank charges are fair lot, most are so brilliant, want to give virtual hugs to everyone :T:p
She LEFT me, she LIED, and she made me foot the BILL !

  • Just thought I would update you guys on what I have recently Applied for.

I have applied for the Capital One Initial credit card on Thursday Night at 8pm I got to the credit agreement part and said it would take up to 7 working days to hear from them.

I then applied for the Tesco Credit Card as I have been reading on here that they only search the last 2 years address info e.g. and as I had a settled Default in 2007 thought I would give it a go. Anyway I have lived at my current address since March 2007 so only 2 years 11 months and on the application it asked for my previous address which the default is registered at as it wanted 3 years of address history.
I did this and got a outright decline so I am unsure why on the info page for the credit card why it says 2 years history when it asks for 3.

Another search wasted but I only have 2 in the last 12 months as I’ve been good at not applying for things. :T

I can answer this - sorry, I should have made it clearer in my previous discussions regards to the 2 year search period.

It specifically relates (Tesco) to 2 years Electoral Roll data so if you've been at an address for 10 years but only have 1 year showing as E/R data they will ask for additional addresses to make up the 3 years linkable history.

I'd assume in your case, your E/R data may show as less than 2 years - so say you moved there March 2007, chances are E/R never got updated until August meaning you should actually show at that address from August 07 - August 09 which is the 2 years.... is this not the case? What date does it show on your credit file?

    make sense :o
