    Here's another suggestion for you.

First step. Tell a responsible and trustworthy adult what you have told us. Ask for their help in what you do next.

Second step. Ring the police. Tell the call-taker that you want to see a police officer at your home, about crimes that you committed over 2 years ago. It's important that you tell them you are disabled and unable to leave your home because of anxiety attacks. Ask them to phone you when they are on their way.

Next step. Have your friend with you when the police arrive. Tell them what you have told us.

They will have to make enquiries to see whether the person harrassing you wants to prosecute. They will want to see the other side's evidence. It sounds like the debt collector just wants money, not to get involved in a court case, so they may feel really hacked off that you've made the decision for them. They won't be able to harrass you once the police are involved.

By doing it this way, you get rid of all your guilt and your fear that your previous crimes will come back and bite you. You may or may not go before the magistrates. You may be cautioned if you've never committed thefts and frauds while an adult. It all depends on your record. If it does go to court, you will be given credit for your admission.

More importantly, debt collectors will not be able to threaten you about going to the police ever again.

Remember what I've said about having a reliable adult with you at all times when you speak to the police officer.

Good luck with whatever you decide.
  • I completely agree with KayPeel and I say that as someone who reported someone who reported a fellow neighbour a few yeas ago for committing similar crimes. They opened up several credit accounts in the names of their neighbours and left them scared and frightened for the calls they were getting from debt collectors about those 'debts'. We still get debt collectors turning up 2 years after they left looking for monies in all sorts of made up names. It's not an insignificant crime.

Come clean, clear your conscience and then move onto the next part of your life. I would love to say that there's a way to click your fingers and let all of this disappear but there really isn't. If you don't, then this and the fear of this coming out of the closet will always be there.

As Kay says, have someone with you at all times
Almost debt-free, but certainly even with the Banks!

im so scared im only 25 (just) and i live on my own. I have come from homeless accomodation as my mum kicked me out when i was just 14.
i got my flat in 2005 and started to do the fraud in 2006/07, only stopped this year. Admittedly i used it for household items and to help pay off this stupid loan shark that i had a loan with.
I went bankrupt in jan this year as i was going to be evicted from my flat due to masive rent arrears, ive made it my first home where i feel safe. :-(
this is all so stupid i know.

They only found out because my neighbour looked on her credit report and wondered why her address was linked to mine. she contacted the mail order company which opened the whole can of worms, otherwise they would of never of found out...

I took debt out at my neighbours addrersses and as soon as it arrived i changed the address to my address so the bills would get sent to me. Also i made up names and date of births to get the credit. They obviously dont credit check as these people are fake people ive created and dont live at my address or the neighbours....

I had an email this morning from some agressive man from the Investigation & Police Liaison team at the mail order company...

    first email-
I am currently investigating a fraud occurring at ********* in which goods from this company have been indirectly recieved by yourself at number ** After a breif investigation I have obtianed certain details including the IP address of the application. Please contact me as a matter of urgency. My next step is to prepare witness statements from ourselves and our courier and escalate this in to police investigation.

    2nd email
Perhaps I can refer you to the 'history' button on your PC. The above account was applied for using your details giving the address of **
Interviews and witness statements with our courier service confirm delivery to your address **. You have denied these deliveries to your neighbour Mrs **** however I hold copies of several signatures obtained by the same courier for accounts in your own name, and those of Claire, Jenny, Janet ,Paul, Gemma, Ameila, Stephen, Amy, Emily,Carly,Jane, Hayley, Andrea, Alice, Ben, Rachel, Louise, Lucy and Pete **** at your address. All of which share your E mail address and password. Currently there are balances outstanding in excess of £10,000,00 (Ten Thousand Pounds) at your address with this group with at least £4,000 being obtained fraudulently. There are also 28 further failed applications at ********* and a further 117 applications at your current address. All this information has been collated and the company are looking for restitution under the fraud act 2006. A letter has been sent to your home address to confirm this.

Thats when i rang him, he had me in tears within minutes, very cruel and abrupt man... i was just on my way to hospital before i called him and he said so what.
He said i must pay £400 (which was the last debt i took out) within 14 days plus go to the neighbours and apologise. He said that if i didnt do it he would prosecute....
He then went on to tell me his options- 1 was to contact my official reciever and get my bankruptcy prevoked but he said then the debt would just all be transfered into my name and then id probably go bankrupt again so that wouldnt work in their favour, the second was to go straight to police.... the third was to let all the neighbours call the police by telling the ones that dont know what i did....

i wrote a letter and posted it in the neighbours door (the one that reported me) i apologised alot....

there is no way i can get £400 in 14 days as im on disabled benefits as i have a chronic lung condition and had to give up work.

im screwed i have been crying all afternoon at the hospital.

    why did i do it?
you can all say nasty things and hate me, im already knocked down and cant get back up......

With all due respect im not sure things are as clear cut. Your bankrupt and was being evicted and could not afford to live but can go on holiday.

Firstly ignore these bumbling emails. They are worth nothing. Do not respond, acknowledge or anything. Who in the right mind would go and apologise to a neighbour on the say so of some catalogue worker through an email? Is options are just scare mongering you. You really think they will tell all your neighbours. His options are coming to an arrangment for you to pay it back or prosecute through the courts. I very much doubt the police will even get involved. They will have their own fraud investigator and if they have a case will pass it to their legal team, and hear by mail certainly not email in these kind of cirmcumstances.

Also why on earth would they request £400 when you have fraudulantly claimmed £4000. What happened to the other £6000. Was this legit?? How if you went bankrupt?
In my eyes they are either talking through their bum or your dealing with someone not associated with this company at all.
How can he prosecute when he has not yet got a case. Stated by himself!

    Yourself:
Stay calm and at this time dont read much into it from the companies point of you. Dont speak or liase with anyone until you know that correspondance by phone or mail is genuine. Certainly ignore any emails. Dont ring anyone let them contact you unless you are replying. If genuine, only correspond in writing, dont speak as they will bully you. If they are hell bent on you paying £400 ask why, whats the figure for, how they reached it, for what account, ask for a copy of a credit agreement. No agreement no account so no name can actually be put to it by right.
Basically do anything to stall them and give you a bit more time to get your head around it and seek advice. Put it in writing asking is this a full and final payment to end and close any investigation. Have them admit in writing otherwise they will still go after you after you have paid it?
It will cost them a lot more to take you to court and if so in your condition you will probably only pay £1 a month anyway. The company will lose out. The £400 may be an end to all this and close the matter.
Failing that correspnd with them explaining your hardship, admit error and offer them a token of x amount a month. It shows to them and the courts your willing and not ignoring the fact, state if it goes to courts thats what will happen anyway as your on benefits. (Only do this after everything else has been exhausted).

In the mean time seek advice from CAB and wait until some official letters come though the door, not unprofessional stupid emails. Stay calm. Dispute any debts for the time beiing. They can not persue you whilst in dispute and more importantly look after yourself.

People - I wouldn't normally dream of doing this but it is starting to appear that there is something fishy about this one. In addition to the quotes from the Op's other threads above - take a look at this one, then make up your own minds.
my mother is 77 she gets dla higher rate mobility and middle rate care component. I drive her everywhere, hospitals, doctors etc

am i entitled to free car tax and to change my car to disabled class?

i dont want the free car as she would lose her payment for mobility

and this, from another thread, which appears to totally contradict it....
Hi all i went to brunel ford yesterday to swap my dla for a car to get around etc
i have chosen the fiesta zetec and i paid £150 for bluetooth voice control

however i was just ringing this morning to try 2 get a better deal so i rang another brunel ford in bristol and he just offered me the bluetooth voice control for £100 (£50 off)

i rang back the sales man who sold me my car yesterday i told him about this discount and he said it cant be done as motabilty dont pay anything to them for the added extras

    what should i do?

cancel my application for him and take the other?

Bubbles - don't call or email these people back.

Don't admit or deny anything to your neighbours.

Don't do or say anything to anyone until you have spoken with a solicitor. You need legal advice. And quick.

No one can help you here. Fraud is a criminal offence. The credit company have a duty to report it (whether you pay them £400 for their silence or not).

Get legal help. Things are never usually as bad as you think once you start dealing with them
"One day I realised that when you are lying in your grave, it's no good saying, "I was too shy, too frightened."
Because by then you've blown your chances. That's it."
  • The CAB consider themselves bound by a duty of confidentiality and do not 'take further' things that are told to them in confidence.

True......the general principle of confidentialty for organsations that work in advisory\helping capacity with the public is that the only times that confidentiality is breached re crime is the really serious stuff: murder, manslaughter, rape kindnap and acts of terrorism. Also when an individual is at serious risk to themself and\or other and of course safeguarding\child protection matters. Any worker who is considering a disclosure has to discuss it with a line manager too. Also the policy must be clearly explained to service users and should be displayed on the organisation's premises.
  • I think the outline of the debt is correct but maybe the bit about the reasons are not.

I can quite believe that the OP has taken out all these catalogues and I bet the company is JD Williams who own about 80 different catalogues.

My client who has done this was nearly as daft, she applied for catalogues online using the same email address and password and then thought she would not get found out.

Anyway my advice from yesterday still stands, she needs to contact her Official Receiver about this.

The bankruptcy cannot be revoked as she has not done anything wrong in going bankrupt although it does beg the question of how the rent arrears accrued if she has been on benefits so long.

I don't think the catalogue company will prosecute but that is not to say 100% that they won't but surely they don't want the publicity of how easy it is to get credit fraudulently.
