    Yes, I have.
Just bag them well (at least 2-3 thick bags and ideally a tub) as even frozen they can give off a strong smell.

I chop mine on a plastic board then open freeze it. Once frozen and transferred to bags I just take a handful out to use. It saves defrosting loads just for one dish.
Nothing to report as yet...give me a minute...!

We chop them and keep them in a "Clip and Seal" box in the freezer. No problem.

We do the same with Carrots, Parsnip, Celery, Leeks, Swede Etc.
I used to be indecisive but now I am not sure.

I have a tub in the freezer where I put all sorts of oddments, separately wrapped in clingfilm. The green bit of leeks, extra flowers of cauli, chopped onions (if I need one I chop 2) sprouts, fine cabbage, celery, peppers. Then when I fancy soup all the veg are prepared, and a lot of it is bits I might have thrown. Before I went away for 2 weeks I did that with all the veg oddments I couldn't use up.

In the supermarket there was a big bag of peeled onions, reduced to about 1/4 price, as sell by date. So I whizzed them through the processor and froze those as well. The good thing is not getting onion hands every time I neeed some.

Too much iinfo. Sorry, but it's one of my enthusiasms

i freeze onions all the time
if i use half an onion i chop the rest and add to the box in the freezer, and they go in soup etc

to not have "onion hands" and you dont have a steel soap
    use a stainless steel teaspoon
just like a bar of soap, under cold water
rub it over your hands and it will take away the smell
    (works with garlic too)

I buy frozen garlic from Morrisons, bag so big it goes on for ever, for about £1 if I remember rightly! Then no need to keep trying to chop dried out papery garlic. More economical I think :-)

when ever I chop and freeze onions I always triple bag them in a poly lunch bag then put them into a lakeland soup bag with the 'zip-type' closure.I have never had the smell spread to other parts of the freezer.I know its a nuisance chopping and peeling but half an hour doing half a dozen onions is worth it when you think how sometimes you only need a small handful in your cooking.Onions keep brilliantly frozen and chopped and are really inexpensive at times .I always try to buy them when they are on offer or yellow stickered as they really do freeze extremely well.
looking at the first post on here about freezing onions from 2005 how wonderful if we could buy a large bag of onions now for 20p :)
