No you dont have to apply for jobs every second of every day in your Job seekers agreement you agree to show you have been looking for work and are expected to show that you have done 3 things a week to look for work, so that 6 things every fortnight when you sign on.

..................I didn't say that! If you are required to attend an interview (for example) you should be contactable and not sunbathing on a beach in Malaga. It seems you are allowed go somewhere in the UK for a holiday and arrangements can be made so that you don't have to sign on in the normal office but you should still be available for a job or interview if they arise!

Sign off JSA and resign when you get back if you don't like it!

I doubt they do spend every living moment applying for jobs but the agreement is that they are available for work if claiming JSA.

well i suppose people could be clever and say to them i am available for work in the area i am on holiday. so if you are on holiday in the scottish highlands then say get me a temporary job in the scottish highlands then. i dont see anything wrong with allowing people some time away. the liklihood of a company trying to contact you and also wanting you to start immediately is very small.

Claiming benefits isn't supposed to make anyone 'well off' is it
are you deliberately misunderstanding what i said? i will humour you anyway with an answer.

no, but some people say a person on benefits is well off because there rent is £200 a week and that gets paid by housing benefit. whether your rent is £1000 or £10 it makes no difference if in both cases after paying all your bills you only have £5 left.

No, they can sign off quite easily and take as much time off as they want! That is quite alright in my book ;)

Let's face it...if you really really wanted a job, you wouldn't have an issue over this...priorities and all that

Well...if you qualify for a bus pass - then I guess that makes you 60 or more years old?? - in which case....and I'm being helpful here honest:D - I'm not quite sure why you arent classified as retired - rather than unemployed?

i wish i was that age i would be on pension credit. i qualify not because of age but because of a condition i have, i dont qualify for a driving licence.

I don't mind at all if someone on JSA goes on holiday.

What i do mind is them still getting their benefits when they are NOT looking for work as they are not around.

I need a holiday aswell, but i am too busy at work, and paying the taxes so people that aren't CAN go on holiday.
as an employed person you qualify for holidays. how much is it costing your firm to pay you to go on holiday and not have any work being done by you.

    I think so yes!
I have to do my job all day, so you keep a roof over your head and feed your family so why not?
the underlying point of what i said is i can get a weeks worth of work(jobsearching) done in a few hours. if you could get your weeks work done in a few hours then you would not need to work all week.

if people thought going away for a week or 2 would stop them from getting a job they wouldnt do it.

Please don't humour me DonnaJ, you totally do not understand my point...

I'm just sick to death of people claiming that those on JSA only get £60 a week when in actual fact that is their spending money to pay bills...most workers include their rent/mortgage into the equation when costing up their outgoings so why are you excluding this....it might not matter to you especially when you do not pay it yourself but it does to me!

I might have to move house if I cannot afford to pay where I am currently (for example) whereas somebody who gets their rent paid for will not!

£60 per week is quite a lot of money for one person, what would they have to pay for? I certainly do not spend £240 a month on utilities and food....I certainly don't buy clothes every month...

Some people lose entitlements, they can't carry them over to the next year. Sometimes you may be able to get paid instead...
