OS Daily Thread - Wednesday 18th November

Hi there! This is the Daily Thread for Wednesday 18th November. It is an 'Over the garden fence' type thread where we chat about everything Old Style and maybe a little bit more. It’s a great, inspiring and motivating thread we start each day to discuss what Old Style things we’re going to do today or what we’ve achieved already. Everyone’s welcome, please do come in, put your feet up (although check the fence hasn’t just been painted first!) and join us for an Old Style natter. The more the merrier!
As this is the Old Style Board, it would be appreciated if posts could include some Old Style content. Please be aware that many people may have small screens, or slow internet connections, so please don’t post large pictures, or clip art – links are preferred.
Please do not start a new Daily Thread before you go to bed at night because this often leaves things confusing with two Dailys' live at the same time. The idea is that a member would start each new Daily Thread after they get up in the morning.
Some people who chat here like to try to answer everyone. Don’t feel you have to though, a general “Hi everyone, hope you are all well” type start is just as good.
Morning OS chums.
VastSarah.. I hope you have a fab day!
Aussie - glad to have you back.. kept thinking I saw your name on the site recently but then when you didn't post realised there must be someone with a name very similar to yours... Good job I didn't pm them and demand they came back...I might have been reported...
Cranky - thinking of you and the house elf. xx
SunnyGirl - I LOVE being able to ring Tris.. some days he cannot say more than 'Howdy sweetheart', so I just burble away for a while to distract him from the pain. I hate him being in hospital but I do love the fact I can ring him whenever I like. (When he is at home with his children etc I don't like to ring more than every week or so, so just wait 'til he gets online and we can voice)
Hester - Thank you
. Hope your day today isn't too frantic.
Bitsy - I was looking for that computer smilie this morning when I posted but couldn't find it, but yes, I was a bit like that.
Molly - Thinking of you and your DD
Sunflower - we like liver for a change here too.. so cheap and the trick is not to cook it too long at all.
Reverbe - deary me, you do seem to have a lot of bad news since you have been posting again. I am sure you will find another christmas job, so don't worry, I know our local job centre is full of them at present.
Flutterby - You go girl! Very impressed with your kicking ar*e!
tiredmum - Don't let that nasty man get to you and I agree find out the nearest dog wardens and just give them a heads up.
Nordictat - Hope you have a fab time in the UK hon.
OK, so part of my OS-iness yesterday ended up being making an apple cake with the half a doz apples my OH found on our crab apple tree. They had gorgeous red skins so I left them on and just cut out the dodgy bits. Also made a mini crumble for my OH as he loves them so much and has a stinky cold and sore throat. We were due to have friends down for dinner but cancelled as he went right to bed as soon as we got back from my Drs appt.
Had some candles arrive from QVC yesterday - and Mmmm they smell gorgeous. My house smells of banana nut bread which is surprisingly delicious smelling - very nice indeed!
Toast for lunch today methinks, to use up the HM liver pate and I am also making some bread pudding. The defrosted stale bread is soaking in redbush tea as we speak. I only use sweeteners rather than sugar with loads of dried fruit. Have some ready to eat apricots that were knocked down at the supermarket so will chop those up too, they are lovely and juicy.
To everyone who is poorly
- get well soon. I hope today is the best it can be for everyone. With love and light to all.

To be frugal, you need to spend money wisely, simply spending less is not enough.

Morning All
Flutterbye, your job always sounds so interesting, though I think you must be very brave to do it.
Tired Mum, sorry you had problems, my DD has a Staffy & she always takes him out muzzled as she knows their reputation & she always poop scoops.
I shouted at 2 students yesterday as they were trying to kick my office wall down, they told me to shut up, fortunately I knew their names so they are now on report. The kids are all so hyped up at the moment, they always get like this when the weather is windy.
Have a good day everyone.
Hugs Hester

Hi MSD and all who follow. Just dropping in to say I'm still around, but this cold is still slowing me down. I seem to be OK during the morning, but start flagging after lunch. It's the third week now and I'm feeling a lot better but so so tired.
I actually made myself go out and get stocked up yesterday, to save going out for the rest of the week! We've been invited to a Beaujolais Nouveau evening on Friday and I want to make sure I am up for it - should be a great evening.
We've been living on soups and casseroles these last few days, mainly because they can be prepped in the morning (when I have the energy!), and they more or less cook themselves, so making dinner time less of a chore. I'm making sweet potato and red pepper soup today - the last batch I made was delicious, with some chilli added, and very comforting when you're feeling sorry for yourself.
I also have a chicken to joint and freeze, plus we'll be having lamb hotpot for dinner - certain cuts of lamb seem to be really cheap here and I bought loads yesterday.
MSD - Tris must really appreciate your chats.
Jayne and George - thinking of you.
Well, I'd better go and put the WM and the BM on, and make the most of the morning's energy!
Have a great day, everyone.

Morning folks.
High winds here today, but no rain. It might dry the ground up a little.
Work today at 1pm, so back on 7 days straight shift. Lots to do so I don't mind. Big holiday at Christmas, so work seems like a breeze.
Spent to much money in Truro yesterday, well relatively speaking. Bought some new trainers £14.99 from £95 in TK Maxx. The best thing is they felt good too.
Lots of bargains in TK at present. Weird fish were having a sale with kids T-shirts at £3 and fleece tops £5. Great presents!
Truro has the best £5 lunch going. A chinese meal 2 courses, choice off the menu and it's all cooked fresh where you can see it and it tastes great. Treated the OH and it was delicious....
Cucumbers, red peppers (3 pack) Pomegranates etc all 29p at Lidl this week.
Have a good day....NO to pasty tax We won!!!! Just shows that people power works! Don't be apathetic to your cause!0 -
Morning all!
Off to work in a few minutes. Packed lunches are done. Tea will be HM meatballs in tom sauce with LO rice if I go and get them out of the freezer!!
Hope everyone has a good day.

Good Morning
Very windy here too, dont like the wind. Woke up with a massive headache - wonder if that is due to the weather.
In the office again today but also I need to start ringing the docs at 8am to try and get an appointment. I dont know how people who work outside the home cope with this - its pure luck if you can get an appointment or not.
House is still messy
& might be staying like that for a couple more days, dishwasher still broken & B Gas cant come out till Fri. Fingers crossed they can fix it then. No idea what is for dinner - didnt menu lan this week - will have a look in the freezer later - do know that I need to use up some new potoatoes though.
So am an OS fraud in practice at the moment but in theory I am still os :rotfl:hopefully will start catching up with myself soon.
(((hugs))) wherever needed.

:bdaycake:Happy Birthday Sarah, have a great day xx
Morning all,
Heavy winds here again today, and its cold, although its meant to stay dry.
Off to work today, so quick tidy round before I go, rubbish and recycling are out. Tea tonight will be gnocci, garlic bread and a bit of salad.
Lunch for me will be a tuna and cue sandwich, dd has ryvitas with cheese and marmite, 2 smallish twinks and an apple, I am not sure what OH has, he makes his own, but there is a lot of it, and there is at least two pieces of banana loaf.
Yesterday I took littledog up the beach for a run, got 10 mins up the beach, and the heavens opened, it poured down, littledog took one look at me and legged it back to the car with me chasing, by the time we got there we were both soaked to the skin, a pair of drowned rats :rotfl:
Hope all the poorlies feel better soon.
Have good days all xx0 -
Morning all
I've woken up earlier due to the winds being sooooo noisy! As much as I love living by the sea, it is kinda scary when you feel like the world is about to end :rotfl:
MSD - I really enjoyed kicking @rse, but glad I no longer have to do it now the bad apples have gone!
HH - My job is ace, and it's really not scary. Because I work with the same group of young people for a full 12 weeks, they know me, and I know them enough to know that they are more or less unlikely to attack me or anything. Plus normally there are 2 of us working.
Moiliere - We have Beaujolais Day here tomorrow, I am on a course all day in West Wales so I'm not sure if I'll be back in time to be able to sample the delights
I have an exciting day in work ahead. We have been asked to help the police to practise their interview skills. So we get to pretend to be criminals (not a hard pretend for some of my lot ) and have to role play with them. They get 'paid' £10 for participation, which they can spend in the canteen for lunch and drinks. Being a bit of an :A myself I have never really had any contact with the police ever so it should be fun!
Not much OS planned, need to hoover, I might do that now beforeI get ready for work.
I'm having dinner out with friends later so will use probably either the Pizza Express or La Tasca vouchers. Also going to pop to Debenhams for the mega sale. I did buy 4 dresses to try for my friends wedding off their website yesterday. Got 35% off and free postage. This way I can try them on with heels and proper underwear at home so figured it was easier.
Have a lovely day all

Morning everyone.
Boy it's been blowing a gale outside all night  it always makes me slightly worried as we have one large (now trimmed) oak tree in our garden and next doors has an even bigger one. Since their roots are so shallow I always have in the back of my mind one of them blowing over and falling on the house
Anyway taking kids off to soft play centre this morning - be too windy for them in the garden, don't want them taking off! This afternoon will probably be bit more cleaning (not much) and if I have the inclination I might break out the Wii and use the Sports Active. I used it last night for the first time in months and I really need to get back into doing some exercise when the kids have had a better nights sleep.
Lunch will be LO leek and potato soup (the spuds are just soooooooo tasty!). Tea will be a makeshift for H as I am going out with some friends for a meal
There will be no
as I am driving but the local pub does a wicked chicken and leek pie.......am drooling at the thought of it.
Diva - glad you are getting to speak to Tris.
Mioliere - sorry your cold is lingering
Redruby - sorry but have to
at little dog legging it back to the car and leaving you behind. Hope you both dried out soon......mmmm nothing like the smell of wet dog!
Tiredmum - ring your council. Mine doesn't have a dog warden anymore  but they still should have someone to deal with these sorts of issues. Oh and you might like to have a word with the police if he's using threatening behaviour to you again.
Flutterby - just remember in the interview to keep repeating "I didn't do it guv" :rotfl:
Vast Sarah - Happy birthday. Here is a band playing just for you
and hope you get lots of
Right better go and feed myself and DD.
Hugs to those that need them.
Have a good day OS or not.I have a gift for enraging people, but if I ever bore you it'll be with a knife

I think it's morning, the clock says so. I find it so hard to get up this time of year. I get by on 6 1/2 hours sleep in the summer no problem but this time of year 10 is not enough! Such a dark day as well. Have to be in work for 8.45. Fortunately don't have to do that many times in the week. SAD lamp is on, but need to get weaving really.
I got a mouse. Late yesterday evening I checked for footprints. It was back in during the night, there's tooth marks on the chocolate, but it was the peanut butter that was too tempting. Don't know where it's getting in though. I think I shall tape up the back door tonight and boobytrap the place again.
Must go and get ready. More later."Knowledge is knowing that a tomato is a fruit. Wisdom is not putting it in a fruit salad"
