if you think tap water has something to do with toilet water, i think a bit of cat litter getting flushed should be the least of your worries ;) :rotfl:

i live near a beach with a sewage treatment plant next to it, and i think the pipes there that put treated water back in the sea would say otherwise ;)

anyway as i said, if it was the case that we drank it again, think what else people flush down the toilet - human waste, vomit, condoms, toilet paper, fag ends, and other manner of rubbish people see fit to flush... whats a bit of cat litter chucked in the mix for good measure?? :rotfl:

Dont use cat litter---just use newspaper..lay 1/2 in the tray, tear the other half into strips, and free---plus no Kitty litter walked about the house. If using thin papers (Sun, Star) use 2 papers.. Works fine, for 1 cat anyway.

Same problem - 2 cats, we have a covered cat litter box with a flap and carbon filter in the lid - no smell, no litter on the floor.

This clumping litter is the best for us:
    http://www.zooplus.co.uk/shop/cats/cat_litter/clumping_litter/extreme_classic/13626

and we use it with a scoop shovel like this:
    http://www.zooplus.co.uk/shop/cats/cat_litter_litter_boxes/deo_accessoires/litter_box_scoops/14301

so you can easily scoop out clumps and the clean litter filters through.

Also we line the very bottom with an inside-out black bin liner so when we want to change the whole thing we just pull it up by the edges and throw the whole bag away. Simplez.

  • Try baby chick food. It is excellent as a clumping cat litter. Acts exactly like worlds best cat litter but is much, much cheaper. A bag of 5kg costs £2.50 and lasts 2-3 weeks - 20kg costs approx £8.

    Hope that helps!

Sorry, I know this is abot cat litter BUT treated effluent from Sewage Tratment Plants isn't returned to the taps. It will be returned to the nearest water course and there may be abstraction down stream but it will go through the water purification process before it gets back to your taps.
If it worked the way you suggested I think there would be alot more ill people about and the treatment is to protect the environment.

Oh dear Emlou!! I partially blocked my toilet early on, so now flush in stages - half a large wee at a time and always flush quickly as it does seem to absorb a lot of water.
