As Emlou says my first bag of Okoplus came from Pets at Home as I wanted to try before spending a lot of money. I have since bought a massive 40 litre bag from Zooplus for £23 - you need to spend £29 to get free delivery so I also bought some cat food.

Also back to poo! what do you do with it? noticed someone bags it in the bin..why not down the loo?

I bag and bin mine - I worry that the bits of litter stuck to it will block my toilet, and I also read somewhere that cat poo contains toxins that human waste systems don't get rid of, and they can end up in the ocean, but I am not 100% convinced about that.

that was me, cos i dont want to carry it upstais or round the house. at the moment the trays are in the hallway until we get the utility room done, then they are going out there.
so, i hold my breath, take the lid off, grab it in a bag, then run out the front door.

I take the entire tray to the toilet and scoop in position which is obviously easy in a flat! To be honest tho, Noah's doings just don't smell bad since he has changed foods.

Well Daisy's a proper little lady as her's dont smell......

    much!:p
  • Ok, I'm still a bit undecided about this. Can anyone tell me if the clumping litter at Lidl or Netto's is the same as the Super Clumping Clean Paws stuff I am currently using. I have decided I am going to stick with the clumping kind as it's just less maintenance so now my challenge is to source the cheapest possible, but still effective clumping litter?

    we've tried;
    wood pellets - hated them
tesco value - cheap but had to be emptied every other day
tesco clumping - didn't absorb the wee smell
city cat crystals - lasted 2 weeks but didn't absorb all the wee
waitrose ultra fine clumping - loved it but 1 bag filled the tray so not cheap
pettex clumping - goes muddy and doesn't last long

classy cat - arrived today so not used yet but smells nice!

This type is the only kind I use.

OP try one bag of white crystals, you won't regret it:D

The best are CityCat, you can buy this in Sainsburys.
Close second (if I don't get to Sainsburys) is Bob Martins white crystals (in a bag - NOT the box ones) from Asda, Tesco or Waitrose.

    I would second that:j:j

Crystals is the only one I use too.

Really masks the smell and I find it absorbs the urine well.

i remembered reading about you rating it highly which is why we tried it, was disappointed that it didn't work as well as we expected

  • Ok, I have bought a bag of the Bob Martin's Crystals from Morrissons today. Ok, I now get the concept of it. Speaking plainly, scoop out the poo and let the crystals take care of the wee? Am I right in saying then that I will be mainly scooping out lumps of poo but trying to leave of the crystal litter in the box? Then when it starts to stink after a few weeks chuck it all out, clean the tray and start again? Sounds simple enough to me.

Other than, I still have some Ultra Clumping Clean Paws left and the instructions on the Bob Martin stuff say I need to mix it half and half with old litter and over time use less old stuff so the cats get used to the crystals.

So I am about to chuck some new crystals in with my clumping stuff for now. I know I won't get the full effect but I hope at least it should improve on the smell.
