Speaking plainly, scoop out the poo and let the crystals take care of the wee? Am I right in saying then that I will be mainly scooping out lumps of poo but trying to leave of the crystal litter in the box? Then when it starts to stink after a few weeks chuck it all out, clean the tray and start again? Sounds simple enough to me.
Other than, I still have some Ultra Clumping Clean Paws left and the instructions on the Bob Martin stuff say I need to mix it half and half with old litter and over time use less old stuff so the cats get used to the crystals.
So I am about to chuck some new crystals in with my clumping stuff for now. I know I won't get the full effect but I hope at least it should improve on the smell.
You won't get the full effect from the crystals if you mix it.
Is your cat one of those fussy ones that doesn't like the litter being changed? Mine are happy with anything.
You scoop out the poops & stir the litter - we do it daily, its DHs job;)0 -
Yeah, I know it won't be the full effect but I have nearly a full bag of the old stuff and I am not gonna chuck it. So am happy to mix it for the moment till the old stuff runs out.

Hi Cally, when you say cleaning out, I guess you mean scooping out waste. How often do you tip it all out and start again?0

I buy a big sack of wood pellets that lasts 2- 3 weeks at £7 a bag.
Many moons ago I used to get free ''catlitter' by way of going to the timber yard with black bags and getting wood shavings.50p/£24.00 Xmas 2010:rudolf:

I remove poo everytime I see they've done one and I remove the wet waste morning and night by tipping all the clean stuff out n then scrapping all wet stuff in to their bin0 -

Is that the Value stuff? I use that, I got some at the beginning of the month and have just finished the first bag (I have one cat).0 -
hi geri ... yes its the value stuff I use. I dont see point in forking out more money for something that the cats pee on and just gets chucked out, lol.0

We moved from crystals to moonlight clumping, which I find fantastic, but, as Cast best flushable has also been so well recommended here we've just..this morning, changed to that (my cats are little troopers and don't mind sudden change of litter). We want to reduce non recycle-able waste, and the flushable aspect appealed, but that we can also add to compost is even greener, and I think flushing will be an option taken only if in a hurry. The smell of the actual litter is nice and neutral, but the small bag doesn't go very far, and I think it will be less cost effective than moonlight ultra clumping, but we'll see.
One cat tested it for us immeadiately and I can already see I'm going to miss the ease of ultra clumping...perhaps this will win me over during the week, i hope so!0 -
get a covered litter tray and use the cheapest clumping litter you can find!!! i am sure cats think its good luck to scatter litter outside the tray and the covered ones keep the mess to a minimum!!! I also think the cats prefer it as it gives them a little privacy (after all we dont locate the toilet in the living room do we?).0
