Vista guide to show hidden files http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/tutorials/tutorial130.html0

Been sitting here for last hour and I just can`t find the hidden files and folders. I`ve clicked on the box to show them but can`t find them anywhere! its mind boggling. Please can anyone help me find the file I need to delete
C:\ProgrammDate\Microsoft\Search\Data\Applications \Windows\Windows.edb
I think I preferred it when I was a child and computers hadn`t been invented!0 -
They dont just POP UP out of nowhere
Open up C drive
Therell be a load of folders in there (Windows, program files etc)
Find PROGRAM DATA (It will be a slightly pailer colour to normal):idea:0 -
I mus be the thickest person on this planet at the moment as I am in program date but cannot find anything that resembles what I need to delete. Sorry!0

Either work your way through the successive folders, double clicking each to open it
or paste C:\ProgramData\Microsoft\Search\Data\Applications\Windows into the address line, then Windows.edb will likely be the last item
edit: I simply don't understand why the forum software inserts a space into that string (which it also did before), and it doesn't look like that when I'm editing. You might have to either open my post as a quote and copy it from there, or paste it in and then if the space appears delete it
What I still don't understand is why this affects you and not everyone, and why that thread on the Avira forum recommended bypassing it.
I've just found the same file on this my other PC, and haven't had any problem.
The database file is an index for the search function. Perhaps there was an old reference in there to one of the things you've since removed, so when the index rebuilds itself let's hope the problem doesn't recur.0 -
Thanks will have a go at yor suggestions later.
I run Avira on my desktop and daughters laptop and the desktop is fine.
Fingers crossed I find it later and it works! thanks again0 -
Just wanted to say thank you all so much for the time you have given to try and hep me out with `the laptop` problem, it is really appreciated. However, I am getting more and more confused as I can`t find this hidden file and am getting more and more confused.
I was wondering is there another good free anti virus thingie that I cold maybe put on the laptop and take of Avira to see if that will work.. to be really honest I am at my witts end from frustration at not being able to sort it despite all your clear and wonderful instructions.
Also need to know is the laptop now free from anything untowards after running all the above programms and posting the comments. Don`t want to make things worse but this `locking on Avira` is a pain in the backside. Is the jamming caused by a `virus` or just the laptop not liking something.
Looking forward to hearing from all you experts, anyone fancy coming round for a cuppa to sort it for me???0 -
Uninstall it and put AVAST on:idea:0

Thanks will do that now.0
