Avira AntiVir - got a problem with laptop

Jus thought I would do a scan whilst had daughters laptop out, I have tired this three times now and it keeps stopping and jamming 29.3% it also manages to lock the laptop and the only way I can get out of it is to turn it off at the button (which I know you are not meant to do).

Has anyone else had any problems - not sure what to do as its not been fully scanned for a few weeks.

Many thanks as always.
(really don`t know what I would do without all your help and advice)

  • what I would do is to uninstall Avira using Revo Uninstaller (which is a free tool and does a much better job than normal Windows uninstaller) and then re-install a fresh version of Avira.

    You can get Revo here

I don't know, but I've noticed a couple of threads on Avira forums related to this

People get asked to do a HijackThis scan, and it sometimes turns out that they are running too many security products and they clash, for example more than one anti-virus, or sometimes there are infections and they get advice about removing them with Malwarebytes etc.

So even though I'm not an expert on looking at the logs, I'd suggest you at least download those programs if you don't already have them, and wait for more expert replies on here

    Dont bother uninstalling and reinstalling
    Clearly something is conflicting

Download MALWAREBYTES (Make sure you click 'DOWNLOAD LATEST VERSION')
    http://www.filehippo.com/download_malwarebytes_anti_malware/
Open malwarebytes and goto UPDATE and click 'check for updates'. After its updated goto SCANNER and click PERFORM FULL SCAN then click SCAN
Post the log here AFTER youve deleted everything it finds

    reboot

Download HIJACK THIS (Make sure you click 'DOWNLOAD LATEST VERSION')
    http://www.filehippo.com/download_hijackthis/
Click DO A SCAN AND SAVE A LOGFILE (Takes seconds) then post the log so we can see whats running
(do NOT do anything else with Hijack but scan and post the FULL log)

you seem to be running both Avast and Avira ??

that may be the cause of the lock up as you should never run 2 antivirus

remove one of them from add/remove programs

this will remove avast for you

How to uninstall our software using aswClear.exe:
    1. Download aswClear.exe on to your desktop
    2. Start Windows in Safe Mode
    3. Open (execute) the uninstall utility
    4. If you installed avast! in a different folder than the default, browse for it. (Note: Be careful! The content of any folder you choose will be deleted!)
    5. Click REMOVE
    6. Restart your computer
