Yesterday Oh and I looked at our accounts, managed to finish December with £380 in credit :j- that went into savings, plus have transferred £250 from this months pay into savings too!
I'm very pleased about the December amount, we tried really hard to economise on presents and everybody seems really pleased with what we got them, plus we have money left! The £10 a day challenge I've been doing for the last few months has really started to impact positively on our accounts.Mortgage [STRIKE]16/03/2011: £190K 01/01/2017: £107,729.65 [/STRIKE] 01/07/2017: £95,979.89

Has anyone else come up agains some really negative people?
At work we were discussing NY resolutions and I mentioned that mine was to pay off £10k of debt. Most of the people at work were either indifferent or supportive except one woman who gets on my nervs anyway.
She immediately started quizzing me on how I was going to do it and then when I told her she said "oh well that's not possible you just "want" to pay off £10k you won't actually do it" and then went on to say that she couldn't do it (in a way that clearly said that if she couldn't, I couldn't)
When I then said that one of the main things I was planning to do was cut my expenses she got even more outspoken telling me I was being ridiculess and that it was more important to go out and have fun than to pay off debt. At which point I turned around and decided not to talk to her any more. BTW she's in her 40's so it's not as if she's a kid who thinks the world ends if you don't go clubbing atleast once a week.
Normally I would say that anyone like that is just jellouse but knowing her I can honestly say that she was being that way just becouse she can't stand anyone having an oppinion that isn't hers.
The experience did make me stop and think though. 10 years ago I lived in a bedsit that was just big enough for a wardribe (that was built in) and a single bed. I couldn't even lie flat in the floor space I had and I had to share a bathroom and kitchen. I didn't have a TV or DVD player, I couldn't afford to go out, I didn't have a car and I pretty much lived on beans on toast. Now I have a lovely and rather large 1 bed appartment, in a nice area and a security controlled building. I have a nice (economy) car, TV, lots of DVD's and books, decent furniture (much of it donated by family) in comparison I live in the lap of luxury. So in my oppinion it's not mad to say that for a year I'll give the pubs and clubs a miss and instead read all the books I've been meaning to read, learn to cook, work on my illustrations, watch DVD's and all the other things I never have time to do. If I want to go out I can go to my friends or invite them round for a girls night, in the summer I intend to take up walking again so even though I can't afford the gym I'll still be getting exercise. When I go shopping instead of spending an average of £30 per week on junk food and ready prepared food I'll buy ingreediends and make my own food, which I've actually learned I enjoy doing (even if I don't enjoy the washing up! lol)
When I totted it all up like that I just came to the conclusion that these days we're all convinced that we need so much, we never sit back, take stock and think that actually most of us have everything we need and plenty of the things we want.
Every-time I start feeling hard done-by and fed up of not having any money this year I'm going to try and sit down and think about where I was 10 years ago and how much I really have and hopefully that will help me keep my cash in my pocket!!!

That's what we're here for!
I told a few people about it at work today too but didn't get anything like that reaction! How rude!
I think you're right to take that time to reflect. You sound so determined in what you're going to do and it seems as though it will help you appreciate what you do have in life and give you the chance to do things you might not otherwise have done. Don't let them get you down.
Big hugs and positive debt clearing thoughts!Wandered away from the MSE track for a while but am back and on a mission! Debts cleared nearly £18k. Now to start saving ...0 -
Oh and another £181 off my total as my loan payment went out today, hadn't realised it hadn't gone out over Xmas. Oops.Wandered away from the MSE track for a while but am back and on a mission! Debts cleared nearly £18k. Now to start saving ...0

Hey Amatheya81 don't let people like that get to you. She's probably just jealous and in a similar situation to yourself but won't admit it.
I can relate to needing things and wanting things just cause they are cheap or on offer.
I have just cleared out my bathroom cabinet and i have enough bath foam, shampoo, handwash and conditioner to last me at least until the end of the year and that was only one small cupboard i still have loads of boxes of toiletries above and below my bed and was also given 2 soap and glory hat boxes for my xmas but with all the stuff i already have in the house i don't know if i can justify opening them
If i can restrain myself from buying any other toilettries this year i should have lots of money left to spend on debt repayments..... well that's the idea anyway!

I know what you mean about peoples reactions Amatheya81, I haven't told anyone else that I'm doing this challenge (my challenge is saving rather than debt payment) as I know people wont understand how I can enjoy nights in saving money rather than waste money on drink. You're right about the attitudes of some people - I know plenty of people who aren't willing to sacrifice anything in the short run for long term gains.
On the plus side - an extra £22 for my pot due to amazon sales!0
