  • Hi Chris,
Hope you don't mind another 'joiner'!! I started a challenge like this last year, but fell at the first hurdle and didn't really pick it up due to a rather rollercoaster 12 months, but have been very good this month and am now totally committed to getting clear and more next year.
I'm on a DMP so rather than increase my monthly payments, I want to start putting money away so I can offer lump sums and hopefully get reduced settlements. I've opened a 'secret' account which I've been putting bits and bobs away in, but having worked out I have £33 per week to live on(!) I'm not getting very far.
However, have just got a weekend job, only one shift a week at the mo, but hopefully will increase and I'm looking for an early morning cleaning job as well. There is also another way my expenditure is going to decrease dramatically, but I can't talk about that yet!
So, will be calling my DMP to find out figures at the moment, and will update my sig. I'd like to get it all paid off and a few quid saved by the end of the year on top of that.
Will be being extremely strict with myself and i know I'm going to do it this time!!!:T

Debt as at Feb 14: £2272.40

  • Hey SiannieLaz

Hope your ok, I got a manic afternoon lined up at work now, which is so difficult when all you can think about is money! lol....im hoping this challenge will take it of my mind a bit :p

Yeah I have another account which I will be using for storing up money - good plan :D

Think part of my strategy is goin to be more work, but I so shattered after my career job I dont know when is best to fit it in :(...Think i may have to sell my pride and joy car too as the petrol in that is crippling me, and insurance is far too high after my prang :( doh!!

Going through my possessions too ready for a big ebay sell off in the new year lol

Are you planning on winning the lottery or something? If your a fortune teller could you please PM me the Euromillions numbers for next week please :p hehe

Gonna have to be so strict too,....something im terrible at, i tend to be an impulsive buyer and have the attitute you only live once, but if I carry on as I am, I gonna live once - but miserably!!!

    keep in touch

I would like to join this please!

My minimum payments (with an additional overpay of £300 per month included) comes to a total of £8838.72 so finding the additional 1161.28 on top would be a bonus and help bring my debt free date forward.

  • Hey there, I'd like to join the challenge to please. Something to keep me and OH focused. It will be a challenge as we are trying to finish the building work on our house first and NOT increase our debts at the same time. Fixed rate on mortgage finishes in March so with a little luck (and Bank of England willing) we will benefit from a drop in payments.

I've got a seperate account too - I opened an isa a few months back to put money in for debts, that way I don't have easy access to it, for instance if I'm in town and see something gorgeous that I want but don't need! But I can get at it for emergencies.
Unless I say otherwise 'you' means the general you not you specifically.

I might need to grill you about this :D I've lost weight following weight watchers and although I have a gym membership Im struggling to get into a routine - the one the instructor gave me ignored everything I said to him and in my head I am the fit person I was several years ago but my body disagrees :D

Have just applied to join Avon as well. Never done it before, but been reading the thread for the last hour (slow day at work!) and it looks like it could be promising. It will be knackering tho, with my full-time & part-time jobs, allotment, studying, housework, trying to make xmas pressies for no money, etc!! At least my debt is down to just over £7k, that's only £136.50 per week to put away!!

Actually I've put a bit back on, need to weigh myself this week to find out where I'm at, I think 'aunt flo' could have been to blame last week! I've got loads more to lose, about another five and a half stone. I've got chronic fatigue so I can't exercise, so it's all been through using the 'healthy eating plate' - basically you have 1/3 carbs 1/3 fruit and veg, and the rest is split between protein dairy and fats. I've slipped a bit over the last couple of months, but I'm raring to go again now. I've just joined Graze, for nutritionally/calorie contolled healthy snacks (fruit, nuts and seeds), so that'll solve my snacking and portion control problems.

I keep meaning to go swimming, but whenever I go I massively overdo it and tire myself out for weeks, so I need to be sure I can be strict with myself! Other than that, just tiny steps - parking the car a little bit further away for instance.
