I have hoovered the ground floor plus the stairs. Cleaned out the chickens and added the dirty bedding to compost heap 1, along with a pile of veg peelings and some shredded paper. Brought a pile of logs in so now I need to hoover again . Walked in the cold to collect the boys from school and fed them with milk and biscuits. Done an online order for Mr S. Found a home for the Cava delivery so it doesn't get drunk before Christmas :p.

I have been checking today and the window drafts are getting worse. I think a number of seals have gone. The conservation officer wants us to change back to wood and house appropriate ones which I aesthetically agree with but cannot afford. We can't replace them without PlanP but I think we can have the glass changed in the existing UPVC windows so I think I will get some quotes for the worst ones. In the meantime investing in some thicker curtains and some thermal linings might not be a bad thing. I just wish I was better with a sewing machine. A trip to Dunelm Mill may be in order later this week. I also need to make a new draft excluder becuase the pesty dog has destroyed sidney snake.

Triker - thanks for the recipe!:T I'm off to make it right now. I'd bought oranges earlier thinking it would need them but it's great that it use marmalade instead!

    Afternoon all

Today's list done. Also did all the bedrooms, two loads of washing (including the bedding), had my hair cut and Asda shopping delivered and put away. The washing all dried, it's been a nice breezy day, and that's all folded and put away.

    Hope everyone's OK.

I seems a waste to spend money on fixing the UPVC which will eat into what you're saving for the wooden windows. Could you do them one at a time, starting with the worst?

In the meantime, rather than altering existing curtains or spending on new ones (unless they're ones you want, in which case make sure you have thermal linings), you can try layering curtains and blinds. I made blinds for all my windows using remnants and thermal lining fabric. Some of them have been nice to keep. And these are really simple ones... you make a rectangle the width of the window but slightly longer, then turn over the top and bottom to make a channel for either curtain wire or a dowel to go through (if you have upvc windows, you'll need wire at the top). The bottom can either be dowel for a straight edge or left soft for a curved edge when rolled up. Use two bits of ribbon/hemmed lengths of fabric on either side to make ties, then all you have to do is roll the blind up from the bottom. You can make them very basic, or do things like use contrasting fabric on the different sides and fold the edges over - and I sometimes make a flap at the top to cover where the ties are sewn in. I can explain properly if you like, but as long as you can get your machine to sew 4 straight lines, you can do this!! And then use left over fabric to make matching cushions/draft excluders etc.

Suppose I should set off home before the M3 gets silly...

  • f£cking furious, can I KILL XH and get away with it under extenuating circumstances? He rang today as agreed, to talk about DD2, he seemed more bothered about the fact that the money he paid for uni accommodation will be a waste of time!! !!!!!!? He also said that as girlfriend and her 2 are moving in after xmas that they will help every now and then with babysitting - well I'm sure that's some comfort - NOT. I know he's in shock, hells bells we all are, but he isn't helping. Don't get me wrong he's normally a good man and I know he loves his kids, but seeing as he earns (works very hard) over a hundred K each year he'll just have to swallow the loss won't he. And he'll have to help out a bit more then every now and then!

Sorry for the rant. Flying? Ain't done nowt, still sat at work xx

Hugs Carlsberg, at times like these you remember why they are an XH.

Lots done today despite the lurgy. Still need to iron and turn up some trousers yet, but the ground floor looks ok. Couple of details to finish off for my stars.

Cheers greenbee, I shall give the blinds some thought. Not a huge fan of fuss or patterns though. Or making an effort atm :o.
