HBOS online banking-can't login ?

By chance I was in branch this morning. They advised that there was 'essential maintenance' going on and that all cash point and internet facilities would be down today AND Monday. Hopefully it will all be back up by tomorrow but they couldn't say for sure. They also said that this 'essential maintenance' was due to take place next week SAT and SUN too. So... Not sure how real the information is as the staff were a bit naff. But just to pre-warn you guys to get whatever cash you might need out by Friday of next week as you may not be able to access your accounts all next weekend.
Forewarned is forearmed.
Id guess any work would be during the night to minimise distruption?0 -
I trained as a nurse in a small DGH some 30 odd years ago. Certain power sockets, marked with a red symbol, were powered immediately by an emergency generator in the event of a power cut. There was at least one by every bed. Good old days, I suppose
Well, that's what should have happened in Halifax this morning, and why this hasn't happened before (I'm sure the town of Halifax has had power cuts in the past). But, like all technologies, the emergency generator will occasionally fail to work.
When computers of this size are turned off, it's not simply a case of reconnecting the power and pressing the 'on' button, which is why it took so long for them to sort it out.
It could happen to any organisation - as technology always has a nasty habit of giving up on us when we need it!0 -
How could they implement it to cash machines if there was a system error across the board? Staff were advising that cash would be available if customers went to the branch. There was no other alternative they could offer while they have the arduous task of sorting this out. Do you not think they want this issue sorted asap? They don't want to shut branches or bring in extra staff to deal with the high volume of phone calls from worried customers that will also extend to the next few days when people ring up regarding charges etc!
I went to a main High Street branch in a city and was met at the front door by bank staff. When I asked if I could withdraw cash from the branch, I was refused and physically blocked entry.
Do not beleive HBOS statements about cash being available at branches.0 -
I didn't want to start another thread.
I haven't been able to acess either Halifax or Bank of Scotland web sites for upwards of twelve hours now.
Anybody else?0 -
it is working for me0

Still no luck for me. Every other address is fine.
I need to transfer £1,000,000 between accounts: if I give you my details will you do it for me?0 -
Calchas- Do you use AOL or any of their other internet providers for your internet access if so this is more likely the problem as AOL are having trouble access secure websites including the Halifax and Bank of Scotland. It is a problem with AOL themselves and not the bank and AOL have no timescale at the moment.
If none of above then contact the helpdesk they may be able to help you.0 -
I use AOL.
Thank you for the advice oliviasmummy.
I can access Barclays. firstdirect and Lloyds, including logging in.0 -
Your welcome, AOL have said they are having problems with all secure sites but it does appear that some can get onto other banking sites just not Halifax and BoS but the error is with AOL maybe contact them see if they have a timescale at present they didnt this morning but with the amount of people using online they may have got a move on.0

It is always nice to know (in these days of trust in bankers) that I am not the only one unable to access my bank accounts. Is this a recent AOL prob or can I expect it to be repeated - really useful now that there is a charge of £1 for each day a current account is overdrawn and zero interest on savings........so much for keep savings in one account and pop what you need into current .........0
