I was looking forward to enjoying the local farmers market which is only once a month but thanks Halifax for ruining that one! No cash, no branch to obtain cash in the town where the market was and farmers market traders don't take cards. I wonder how many small traders like these people have been hit by HBOS today! Not fair on them in these tough times. As usual it's the little fish that suffer because the big fish just strip the business of all profit and still pay out large bonuses rather then spend it on IT systems. Here's hoping they get their act in gear before the power starts to run out in the next few years and power cuts become something normal! Heaven help us then!
The biggest financial losses as a result of this sort of failure are incurred by the bank.

I'd be surprised if there is any UK retail bank with an IT budget bigger than HBOS (although I've no idea how much of their £1.5bn target LBG will be shaving off that budget).

    I'm now getting this:
    Please wait...
... your details will be displayed shortly. If this doesn't happen, click here to view your next page.
"Clicking here" just takes me to the same screen again.

This proves you should have an emergency stash in cash in the house, for such things. My internet banking still not working.

Worth considering if you can afford it.

Probably find that one of the job cuts was the guy/gal who tests the UPS and generators each week.

Online services back this evening according to a "spokesperson"
  • I have managed to log on and can see the details of my current account but the various savings accounts that I have are listed as "unavailable".

Same here but when I click on the roll number, it takes me into the account as normal even though it says Unavailable.
