HBOS online banking-can't login ?

  • I can login, but only have access to my credit card account, and one current account. This is basically the final straw for me when it comes to Halifax. I did have all my accounts with them (savings, ISA, current accounts etc.) and had already started moving my money to other financial institutions, but mainly due to the better deals being offered.

However, with their constant negative press, and now this, I really have lost almost all confidence in them. Soon I will only have my current account with them (as it is the best deal for my current financial situation), but will only be keeping a relatively small amount in it.

I've simply had enough of this bank, and am jumping ship before it gets any worse.

Gotta admit, i have been with Halifax for years and i have never had a problem with them.

The branch staff know lots of the customers by their name and they are brilliant.
make the most of it, we are only here for the weekend.
and we will never, ever return.

Both Barclays and Nationwide have had similar service failures this year. I'm told this problem arises from a lightening strike in West Yorkshire (not seen this verified though). It could happen to any business!

I'd encourage anybody to chase the best deal.

Much of the negative press relates to the current account charges on the account that gives you the best deal! Some of it perhaps a Credit Crunch hangover from an idiot who was incapable of lending sensibly to companies.

Very much your choice. But it's not something I'd do on the back of a servicing problem that has lasted less than 12 hours and appears to be on the verge of being fixed.

If you want to leave them, then it's upto you, but bear in mind that system problems can happen to any bank!

Basically, I was already in the process of leaving them and this has simply further solidified my wanting to. Also, I understand that the power outage wasn't their fault, but the time it is taking to get their systems back online, and the fact that an outage in a single location has caused this many problems is mildly worrying.

A word of warning for anyone currently trying the online service - my browser say that it is not using ssl full encryption or something.

I get this warning sometimes - "Warning this site is using unencrypted information which could be read by a third party" or some such (can't remember exactly) when visiting the login page. Some times it is using it and sometimes it isn't so be aware before entering anything

I reckon you should change passwords and the like when it works properly just to be safe.

You on firefox? I get this randomly for the past 6 months. Not sure if its the Halifax site or just firefox reporting it incorrectly. A refresh sorts it out

I've just accessed normal functionality for banking, savings, credit cards and transferred a decent sum from a low paying account in to a higher paying account. No problems at all.

I didn't check the sharedealing (as it's too depressing)!
  • By chance I was in branch this morning. They advised that there was 'essential maintenance' going on and that all cash point and internet facilities would be down today AND Monday. Hopefully it will all be back up by tomorrow but they couldn't say for sure. They also said that this 'essential maintenance' was due to take place next week SAT and SUN too. So... Not sure how real the information is as the staff were a bit naff. But just to pre-warn you guys to get whatever cash you might need out by Friday of next week as you may not be able to access your accounts all next weekend.

    Forewarned is forearmed.

    :)

They don't always as it happens. When I worked for the NHS on several occasions people were running around with manual defrib equipment to keep people alive because there was zero power. It took us 8 hours to get the IT systems back online once because the UPS's (big batteries basically) connected to the computers also went flat.
I trained as a nurse in a small DGH some 30 odd years ago. Certain power sockets, marked with a red symbol, were powered immediately by an emergency generator in the event of a power cut. There was at least one by every bed. Good old days, I suppose
