Not strictly true, The banks can't report every crime against them as there simply isn't enough resource.
Also depending how the transaction was put through, the banks are unable to charge the money back and you can't claim on any type of insurance in that instance-it's a loss to the bank which we consumers pay via various other means.

If your card issuer is being awkward just report them to The Financial Ombudsman - he is paid a lot more than you to sort out your problems !

No they aren't. The real ombudsmen might be but the adjudicators do not make megabucks.

just 2 update - after sending a letter to the cmplaints team - the senior complaints manager got in touch with me via telephone and letter - she has instructed the disputes team to look into thematter and investigate - will contact me in due course

Also - in my letter i pointed out that due to the delay in dealing with the matter [which abbey have confirmed was due to a staff error] - I have been chased up for the money as well as the fact tht it is afecting my credit rating --- she offered me £65 compesation on the phone which i verbally accepted HOWEVER in her correspondance she states that she cannot do anything bout ny credit rating as although the company understands i am disputing the transactions, as per terms and cinditions i am liable to make the minimum payment each month ---> so i called her up and explained that this was not explained to me on the telephone therfore as things stand - my credit rating is suffering and i am still being chased for payments [continouse letters etc] so i am refusing to accept the £65 compensation
I cannot afford to meet the minimum payment for transactions that i have not spent! She said she will look into this
so will see how it goes

Can any1 give me any further advice?

It should of been stipulated that the mn payment should of been kept regardless of fraud or not, however if you weren't informed of this (they will need to listen to the recorded call) then they should put your credit file right for you.
BTW £65 is a very reasonable offer too!
