Fraud victim! Please help!!!!!

iv had fraud done on my Abbey credit card/. Basincally i cleared my balance on the card earlier this year - to get out of debt - i shredded my credit card at this point as i didnt want to use it again.
a few mnths later u receive a statment showing transaction "datacash.com" + "quasi-cash" charge as well as 1 trasaction from internet domestic reunite genes or something like that ---
this totalled to just over my credit limit

I called abbey straght away and informed them, the advisor told me she wld raise disputes and cancel the card and i would receive something from the fraud department --- 1mnth later i received nothing
Then a few weeks later i got a call from abbey chasing payment - i explained the situation to be told the card had been cancelled but no disputes
raised .... the advisor apologied and raised these disputes and gave me dispute numbers.
The again i receivd calls chasing payments and again explained my situation at which point i was put through to the FRAUD Department - only to be told they had no record of any disputes on my account -- ????
So again spoke to customer services who reassured that the disputes had been raised and she also sent something to the complaints team to look intothis,
Recently received a letter from complaints apoligising about the staff not raising disputes and they credited the interst/late payments back on my account - i thought finally this is being dealt with!!!!!
BUT then i got calls again chasing payments - this time i explained the situation again and got put through to customer services agan to be told that i had received a letter adviing me that am LIABLE for the whole amount - when i asked WHY - "that is the conclusin that hasbeen made"
But i have heard nothing fromthe fraud team and i am assuming the letter they are talkin about is the 1 received from the cmplaints department - which mentioned nothing about investigating fraudlant activity on my account!!>>>???
3 months on and i am still at square 1 with no answers from abbey
I have now contacted the police and obtained an incident number
What is going on?!
The other thing to note is i dont know how my card details have got out as i only evr did a balance tranfer on this card and not used @ ATM's nor to shop - i feel my information has leaked internally by Abbey and they seem to be doing nothing about it?!
Any advse?

  • Write a formal letter of complaint and stating what you expect them to do to resolve the situation. Eventually you will either get what you want or they will issue a final response at which point you should take it to the financial ombudsman. In the meantime if they continue to pursue you, you should remind them of their obligations under the Office of Fair Trading Debt Collection Guidelines, noting that you have raised a genuine dispute on the account and as such they should not be chasing you for payment while the dispute is investigated. Furthermore they should not be marking any missed payments/defaults on your credit file.

It's difficult for people to reply or understand if you don't use English on an English language forum.

  • Dormant accounts /Shudder...... agree with unhappy with ecar on how to approach the situation. But for anybody else reading this post this is why you should always close accounts that you no longer require even after you cut up your CC.

There is no need to be rude.

If you write your post with:
    1. Leaving lines in between them i.e white space
    2. In standard English instead of abbreviated English
It would make it easier to read.

Making it easier to read means you would get more people answering your post.

And btw typing in abbreviated English is not faster to type.

    In regards to your post:
    1. Write to Abbey at their complaints address.
    2. Give you letter the title "Formal Complaint"
    3. In the letter explain briefly what has happened with dates and times that you contacted Abbey with their responses. (Make sure you write the letter using standard English)
    4. End your letter stating if you don't hear from them within 8 weeks you will have to refer your complaint to the Financial Ombudsman Service.
    5. Sent you letter to them by first class recorded delivery.
6.Keep a copy of the letter and recorded delivery receipt until the issue is resolved fully.
    I'm not cynical I'm realistic :p

(If a link I give opens pop ups I won't know I don't use windows)

I Dont think i was being rude ??!!?? and i also dont think it is that difficult to understand - i think it was rude to be told that i wasnt writing in english - but this topic is not about that nor is it about how i type --- so lets leave that where it stands>! -- i asked 4 advice re credit card not advice on how to type - and i personally do find it easier to type the way i have been doing so maybe for u it is not faster but for me it is -- why has that even been made an issue of? no offense to anyone who may think i am being rude but i dont intend to be - i am just saying it as it is :)

Re Abbey advise -thanks, i did this earlier today
