how about practicing your papier mache skills, ISOM on these boards made lots of savings piggies a few years ago which were the rage and you had to massacre them to get into them which always made you feel guilty so they lasted longer.
  • Hi Lemon Tree - thats a great idea! I still need to do my maths and figure out how many pots, how much to put in each month etc, but in the meantime I could have a go at paper mache. Its been quite a few years since I did any though, not sure how 'pig' like they'll end up!!!
  • ooo, that sounds great. Did you have to buy it? Or, how did you get the insides out if it was filled with food without taking the top off?

I got my tin off Ebay for about £2.50 and they are massive, just look up money tin, think that included p&p as well.

  • What are your three jars going to be used for?

I'm going to try 4 piggy banks - Car tax (£15 a month), Car Insurance (£25 a month), TV licence (£10 a month) and Home Insurance (£10 a month)
That comes to £55. Which is just less than one weeks worth of work at my second job, so the first week of each month I will use my wages, then its all done with.

I can't afford to start this month, but will start in December. I'm deciding on whether to tell OH or not. He admits to finding it difficult to stay on track when he thinks things are going well as he relaxes a bit. So I'm thinking of stashing it away, and then when we need to pay it, any extra he's put aside for it can be thrown at a CC. But then I don't like not telling him things. Hmmm. What would you all advise? I don't want to be deceptive!

In other news - had my hair cut yesterday so it was a spend day, boo. But, should be a no spend day today.
  • I like that idea a lot! I put money away in savings but it ends up getting spent and so maybe putting it in homemade items is an even better idea!! I would have to have car tax, car insurance x 2, house insurance, pet insurance. Might work it all out for January and start them up :)

I personally would be honest with your OH but you know him better than me :)

  • I think I will tell him, I'm rubbish at secrets anyway!!! And it is important to do this together.
ooo, I'm excited now. Will make them next week, all ready for December start!
IMD - I try and do that with savings, but my savings account is at the same place as my current account so its only a click to move it back into the current account for spending. This way I might just be able keep my mitts off!
  • That's exactly what I do and so I'm never organised enough. Like the idea of little paper mache thingys for them :)

  • What a fab idea :T I think Im going to be spending this weekend making money piggies and painting them! My OH is on nights too so although we've got no kids that should be enough to keep me quiet :rotfl:!

My mom bought me one of those 20quid money pots a few xmas's ago and when it came to the time I couldn't bring myself to break it (how am I going to cope with pigs?) so i ended up getting a knife and raiding it like when I was a child nicking my sisters pocket money (not that I was any good at that either). The thing is it took all night to get all the money out and I no longer fancied going out for a drink so it worked in a way!
