Room for a little one with a massive debt?!

Hi Ramblingtree - welcome to diaryland. I too find having a diary a great motivation. I agree with Tixy as well about setting smaller challenges - one debt at a time helps me.
Good luck x x x xPay Debt by Xmas 16 - 0/12000

Thanks InMyDreams - I will try and locate the diary somewhere...
Penguin83 - thanks for the welcome! You've paid loads off your original debt, a great achievement. I'll try and locate yours too ffor some inspiration!
Sat down with OH yesterday and discussed the smaller challenges advice. So he's decided which of his debts to tackle first as well. Deciding on whether to change my signature to include his challenges too. Will also be checking out the weekly spends challenge, once I've figured out what my weekly spend should be!
Had good news on Friday, OH has a bonus coming the end of this month. After tax, NI and student loan deductions we think it will be just over £400. This coincides neatly with our car insurance renewal. We were paying £46 a month this year (cheapest we could find), this year we've managed to find it for £305 for the year (cheaper as we had to change cars), so we're going to use the bonus money to pay for it outright, freeing up some money each month and saving the interest we would have paid by paying monthly. So feeling pretty positive about that.
Not much else going on this weekend. Working at my second job this afternoon. OH is away on work this week, so have decided to have a teeny food bill week, not the most healthy, but will probably have beans or egg on toast all week, we're away for a wedding next weekend so will be nice to save the pennies in the week.
Job for after work this evening is making soup and rolls for lunches for the week, and call my parents. Rock n roll!!!!0 -
hi, well done for joining the boards. Just a thought if you can pay for your insurance in full, why not put what would have been the monthly payment aside each month so that you can do the same next year. I know it's nice to think you've freed up money but it's often these annual bills which knock us back so saving towards them is the key.0

Hi Lemon Tree,
That is a good plan actually. I get paid cash from my second job, which makes it quite easy to just take out the £25 ish that it will be each month and put it in a sealed pot. Actually, because we were paying £46, I might put all of it into a pot and then I should have most of the tax as well :-)
Thanks for the idea!0 -
I pay the majority of my "bigger stuff" in one big payment now and my outgoings look smaller so makes me feel better

Yeah, the less DDs each month, the nicer it feels.
I didn't think of Quidco, I just looked, and from Swiftcover, who was our cheapest, I can get £28 cashback. Can I ask, do they give you the same quote if you go through Quidco? Is it really that simple?!0 -
Crap crap crap day. Not really debt related. Just rubbish at work, I'm now being b***hed at for someone else not doing what they were supposed to do, and I felt so s*** by the end of the day I called in sick to my second job, costing me £30. I know I shouldn't have, but I've had a really stressful few weeks and can't quite deal with it today.
So, £30 down. Although it was an extra shift. But still.
On a better note, sorted Quidco, so OH should be getting £28 cashback, yeay! Also, going to a wedding this weekend, staying with friends and instead of going out for lunch on the sunday, will be staying in and they're cooking, so another few quid saved!!! Baby steps...0 -
