OS Daily Thread - Friday 13th November

Hi there! This is the Daily Thread for Friday 13th November. It is an 'Over the garden fence' type thread where we chat about everything Old Style and maybe a little bit more. It’s a great, inspiring and motivating thread we start each day to discuss what Old Style things we’re going to do today or what we’ve achieved already. Everyone’s welcome, please do come in, put your feet up (although check the fence hasn’t just been painted first!) and join us for an Old Style natter. The more the merrier!
As this is the Old Style Board, it would be appreciated if posts could include some Old Style content. Please be aware that many people may have small screens, or slow internet connections, so please don’t post large pictures, or clip art – links are preferred.
Please do not start a new Daily Thread before you go to bed at night because this often leaves things confusing with two Dailys' live at the same time. The idea is that a member would start each new Daily Thread after they get up in the morning.
Some people who chat here like to try to answer everyone. Don’t feel you have to though, a general “Hi everyone, hope you are all well” type start is just as good.
Morning OS chums.
Jayne -
Celyn - Hope the interview went well for your OH.
Janie - Wow that is SOME bargain! Am very jealous of all that meat.
Redruby and Nic1 - My OH's second job is as a DJ and one of his pubs has closed down for refurb so he is losing 4 nights work this month and that will really impact on our finances.
elona - Oh you poor thing,
hope you feel better soon, and well done to your husband for putting his foot down. Now you have to rest and let them look after you!
Lame - Nice to 'see' you.
PurpleIvy - So sorry you are feeling so tired all the time.
Haribo - Where are you honey?
Pen-Pin - Good to see you posting again though sorry to hear your sad news. I too want to see pics if you end up with the 'Cherry' wig
Dreadful weather yesterday so was rather nice cosying up and not doing much. Had a huge pile of post today though a lot of it was bills. (Not sure why, as we don't know anyone called Bill!
) Was very lucky... I joined a company called Bzz about a year ago but have never been lucky enough to be chosen to test anything. Last week I signed up to test some toothpaste without much hope, but it arrived today with not only a fullsize tube but 6 smaller sample tubes to give to friends to get their opinions too.
Have to do a freezer and fridge inventory today I think, the last one is so out of date it's untrue. The cupboards and pantry need doing too but one thing at a time! Am defrosting some turkey breast for dinner tonight.. might look up some recipes for leftover turkey/chicken or just have it as is with some mash and veg. (lazy but nice!) I do love turkey. Lunch will be knocked down savoury chilli slices - 20p from Morrisons last night.
My eldest nephews birthday coming up on the 17th. It will be two years since I saw him last and it upsets me deeply.
To everyone who is a bit poorly
- get well soon. I hope today is the best it can be for everyone. With love and light to all.

Hi MSD and all who follow. Is there no chance, Diva, that you will get to see your nephew?
I've been MIA a lot over the last week or so; I've had this rotten French cold which is finally on the way out, thankfully.
I've just heard that my sister is in hospital having various tests. They think she is reacting to the new meds the doctors have put her on for her osteo-arthritis and fibro myalgia; she has had sickness and diarrohea three times in six weeks, and they say she has a liver infection. It puts my cold (which has had me feeling really sorry for myself) into perspective.
PenPin, Elona and Ivyleaf - (((hugs)) to you all.
Jayne and George - lots of (((hugs))) to you, too.
Well, not much OS-ing to report because I've done as little as possible this last week! I did make a lovely beef stew yesterday, and we shall be having the rest of it for dinner tonight (with chips, at DH's request). He has been making me lots of fruit smoothies, which we've been having as puddings all week. There have been some interesting combinations, but the vit C content must have been helping me!
Anyway, I hope to keep up with you all from now on.
Hope you all have a good day, despite the rotten weather forecast - it's not been much better here, either.

Morning Mioliere!
Lovely to see you posting and glad the cold is getting better. Very sorry to hear about your sister and lots of healing vibes going her way from here.
No, no chance I will be able to see my nephew.. his Grandmother and therefore mother have disowned me.:( Old-fashioned word but apt.
Anyway - it will be great to have you posting more regularly again as we all missed you.

Morning peoples.
Missed out this week as it was pretty dull and so did not have much to say. Still don't have much.
5 weeks until my holiday. It's raining and windy out there and set to get worse by tea time... I can see log fire and decent food being in charge of this evenings entertainment.NO to pasty tax We won!!!! Just shows that people power works! Don't be apathetic to your cause!0 -
Good morning everyone, I hope you don't mind my popping in.
Just thought I would say hello. Sorry to everyone who's not feeling 100% today and hugs for those of you that could do with one.
You're right diva the weather was awful yesterday, it makes you happy to be inside in the warm doesn't it.
I'm going to try my hand at baking bread today, I keep trying but it never rises big enough for a proper sized loaf, think I will try doubling the mixture.
Really need to clean through the house, haven't done it for days, and I think the dishes have started to put themselves in the dishwasher!!!!
Am feeling rather christmassy today, not sure why, but it's a nice feeling all the same.
Enjoy your day

Morning all
Hi Missy
Hugs to PenPin, Elona and Ivyleaf. Hugs to Jayne and George too.
WM & DW are on, egg sarnies made for lunch.
Being an absolute idiot I managed to stab myself in the leg yesterday with a knitting needle, boy you should see the bruise.
DS popped in with his washing last night, he'll be back Sunday to pick it up & do some jobs for me.
Long day for me today, I'm working 7 til 6 & then going back at 10 to collect hubby.
Have a good day today.
Hugs Hester

Morning all,
Torrential rain here, and meant to get worse, with gale force winds later (south coast) , I shall be glad when we are all back in the warm and dry tonight.
Off to work again, but last day of the week, so not too bad, we have a mushroom and cheese omlette for tea, with some nice tomatoes and bread and butter, will get dd to make it i think.
I am doing a smallish wash each night, and hanging it on the airer, so that its dry by the next night, much easier to manage that way.
Need to have a quick tidy round before work, and a swipe of the kitchen.
Elona, you poor thing, take it easy and rest now xx
Lame wolf, nice to see you posting hun, Little dog sends a big kiss for you xx
Cranky hope you and the house elf are ok xx
Have good days all xx0 -
Morning Everyone
Nice morning here or looks like it will be when it gets fully light
Hubby is still off work after having a brick thrown through his bus window but thankfully his eyesight seems to be improving daily now and he can drive again.Just waiting for the blinding headaches to ease and he can go back to work.So I'm dragging him off to Blackburn this morning,I go every Friday for a mooch round the market and always treat myself to a giant cinnamon sugar pretzel.Naughty I know but totally yum and worth the extra calories
Its Friday so thankfully all the heavy cleaning work is done its just a case of a flick round with a duster and a quick vac and I'll be ready for weekend.Just one load of washing too which is quite a shocker.Usually two or three so no doubt there will be a pile of clothes hidden somewhere for me to discover later and gnash my teeth about
Elona-I was shocked to read yesterday that you were so poorly.Hope today finds you greatly improved, its nice to see hubby taking such good care of you though
MSD-How about setting up some sort of savings account for your nephew that you could add to birthdays and christmas and then when eventually you do restore contact you could give it him to show you never stopped thinking of him

Morning All
Totally miserable weather here today - heavy rain that shows no signs of stopping - think we are meant to get strong winds later too!
Unfortunately we do have to go out today - off to pick up a van. We will be near Ikea so will pop in there as still have the vouchers from donating books. Think will have to treat myself to Meatballs!
Need some more cutlery for Xmas so will have a look for that too.
Probably not too much OS today - still have the end of the worlds longest cold but hope to get back on the wagon big time next week.
Pork kebabs for tea.
Have a good day. (((hugs))) to whoever needs one.x0 -
Hello to everybody.
DH has brought me up a tray of tea and I have had my antibiotics so will have cereal and banana later for breakfast.
DH is "cooking" but has left cooked chicken and veg out in the kitchen overnight. I now have a quandary as I do not dare eat it as I can't risk another type of infection or food poisoning on top of the blood clots and pneumonia but don't want to hurt his feelings.
Might make an excuse to just have an egg or something instead and say tablets are making me queasy. I have told him about food hygeine and how dangerous it is to leave cooked food out in the past but he just does not listen! Sigh.
He spent eight hours in the hospital with me last Thursday so I am fairly sure he is not actually "trying" to kill me lol!!!!;)
MSD
Maybe they will change their attitude nearer to Christmas and let you see your nephew? Fingers crossed for you both.
Hester
It is not you that could be doing with being stabbed with a knitting needle pet - please be careful.
Wave Hello and welcome to missymoo:hello:
Gentle hug to Pennypincher and thanks for the good wishes.
Going downstairs once DDs are out and get ready to tell DH I am "queasy" so today will have to be dry toast and an egg etc for me.
Hugs to all"This site is addictive!"

Good morning everyone ,
well I was a very busy bee yesterday and bought stacks of stuff for presents on my trip to Bexleyheath. So many shops with lots of choice. My DDs ma-in-law and I had a good four hour shopping spree, and I now am down to only 9 chrismas presents and four birthday presents to buy between now and Christmas, sounds a lot, but it was well over double that:D
I am going to be running around today as well.My DGD arriives at 7.45 for breakfast before going to her college placement at the local primary school, then I have to whizz off to do the school run with the three youngest little boys this morning. From there its up to the local sorting office to pick up a parcel that I missed yesterday because I was out gallivanting .Hopefully I will have time for some lunch before going to college this afternoon.I finish there at 4.00 and have to fit in a quick trip to eldest DDs to drop off birthday presents to my eldest DGS as he's 19 tomorrow and he's off out for the day, then fly back to youngest DDs house to pick up one of the grandsons who is going to youth club,(his dad will pick him up later thank goodness) then with luck I shall land back home by 6.45 to have dinner and put my feet up.It's all go being retired you know its not all beer and skittles
Still I don't mind . I have a bit of a sore throat today, and my voice has a very husky ring to it,fingers crossed it won't develop much more.
The weather outside is appalling, its pouring at the moment so I have dug out my thick jacket with a hood to keep the worst off.I hope they won't make the children stand around in the playground too much this morning.
I came home last night absolutely exhausted from the shopping but pleased that I had managed to buy so much for so little .I love living where I do, but I like to have lots of shops to look around when I am buying Christmus gifts.
DD's Ma-in-law did a lovely casserole in her SC last night for dinner,I bought her it for Christmas two years ago, and she loves it as she had never had one before.
We were celebrating last night for her as well as she has had her five year all clear from breast cancer.
My DGS was devastated at the time a couple of years ago when I too was diagnosed as he said how unlucky it was that both his Grannies had gone down with the same illness in the same place.
But we have supported each other during treatment and every night she rings me up to see how I'm doing .She's a real sweetheart bless her.a lady with a heart of gold who nothing is too much trouble for.
My DGS's girlfriend Chloe has her interview this morning with the local plods as she is hoping to join as a community police officer.I have my fingers crossed for her, as well as Danny who may hear today if he has got his job that he had his second interview for on Wednesday. They are a smashing couple and have been together for nearly 4 years since school.
Well time to get a wriggle on I think I shall have some porrige this morning to warm me up before I brave the grotty rain and wind .Have a good day everyone and <<hugs>> to those in need
Cheers JackieO xx0
