For those that don't know and are interested, Godwin's Law states that the longer a usenet (forum) thread becomes, the probability of a comparison involving the Nazis or Hitler approaches one. The thread then ends and the person that made the comparison 'loses'.

I like the Rachel Maddows variation on the theme of Godwins Law too.

She said that as the amount of time a liberal candidate is believed to be winning an election increases so does the probability that they will be labeled a socialist.

Frakk it, rob Tescos. They rob us often enough:p

Yep. Not all criminals are bad. I classify them into three categories, the mad, the bad and the sad. If some sad individual can't afford food, and there's food going spare, seems sensible to steal. Prefer they eat good food and save the taxpayer money in nhs bills.

It's too simplistic to just dismiss people as spendthrifts and say that they brought it on themselves.

It is also too simplistic to say that everyone is a "victim" of loose-lending.

If I think back to how I could have lived during the boom.... I could have lived like a prince.. with regular holidays abroad, nice car replaced every few years, best food on the table, designer clothes.. all the mod-cons..... but if I did that I wouldn't be able to save, and could probably find myself in very testing-times now for money which I would have brought on myself for not being sensible with my spending and borrowing.

At one time people in this country regularly used to eat slugs as part of their diet - now people complain at the prospect of having to eat value-labelled chicken!*

*Although I take into account not wanting to buy from any source which puts animals in the food chain though harsh conditions. That is not to say value-labelled food from Tesco for example is sourced from such suppliers who do such things. It could be lower grade, injected with more water-based stuff to increase weight (a rumour I heard about some value meats from lots of superstores) ect.

Regarding the boom, perhaps you should have gone on more foreign holidays when sterling was worth more?

The same goes for us dopester. But we didn't do things that way, we're now relatively secure and, all things being equal, will remain so.

However, we have some relatives who lived the high life they couldn't afford and it's now come crashing down around their ears. They portrayed themselves as people who were successful and affluent, but we always knew it was a facade.

Now their house is on the market and goodness knows what will happen to them. It's their kids I feel for. Last I heard, only the teenage daughter was working (part time around school!)

I do apportion a big part of the blame to careless lenders though. Their greed to get business led to sloppiness around affordability and, I'll say it yet again, we'll all have to pay for it for a goddamn long time.

He just annoys me, poncing about his large garden and huge kitchen, talking about leftovers in the fridge that are very exceptional items, then just turning them into meals. He seems to take aaages/hours at it and has the garden and it's always in daytime... then tells us how anybody can do it.

Not if you're leaving home before 7am, getting back after 7pm in the dark and still got to turn round and get the shopping in, put the bins out, open the mail, listen to answerphone messages, organise things, do the washing/ironing/cleaning, etc.... then cook the damned meal, then do all the washing up and putting everything away again.

    Beans on toast ftw.
    Big ponce.
