i must admit i were looking at the contract deal, but yes there is something to think about..
Actually does anyone knows is internet is really unlimited,or is it same as orange with 750mb limit??

The only bits Tesco mention in the T&Cs are:

    5.2 All usage must be for your private, personal and non-commercial purposes. You may not use your SIM Card:(a) in, or connected to, any other device including modems;
    (b) to allow the continuous streaming of any audio / video content, enable Voice over Internet (VOIP), P2P or file sharing; or
    (c) in such a way that adversely impacts the service to other Tesco Mobile or Telefonica O2 UK customers.

Tesco offer a unlimited browsing addon for PAYG phones which, at the moment, does not have a cap. However, Tesco state that they may start imposing a limit. http://www.tesco.com/mobilenetwork/content.aspx?page=100

So as I see it, as long as you don't use your phone as a modem or do a lot of video streaming then you'll be fine.

thing is 12 month contract is a first on an iphone..

compare the tesco 12 month deal to the low end (£30 a month) o2 deal, and i still think that the tesco deal is better..

but... in 6 months times, there will be a new iphone, and the 3gs will be outdated...

It's a very good deal if you are a light user- it works out at £462 for the year with the 3G. I suspect that prices will have to come down slightly on the other networks after Christmas as Tesco are that little bit cheaper.

    Unlikely.
Apple have been reportedly setting the pricing of both the phone and the tarrif and its been reported that if theres any price cutting phone supplies will cease.

3 months ago there was just o2 selling them, now theres o2, Orange, Tesco and no sign of the rumoured price cuts. Why do people keep believing there will be cuts after Xmas, the rumour was they'd come down when Orange sold them and they haven't.

At the moment there is too much demand, theres no need to discount them

thing is though, 12 months after that there will be ANOTHER iphone...and so on. with cutting edge tech like this there is no point waiting - just buy when you want to buy, and need one. you cant ultimately win by playing the waiting game.

me, im off to tesco first thing on monday morning to bag a 16gb 3gs on payg - will be using it mostly for internet and apps, with the odd text message, so no point taking the contract option - though there is no doubt the £20pcm for a year is the best value one out there, specially with the clubcard points saving a bit more.

after the years free internet expires (by the way, to the previous poster asking about limits - their fair use is by far the best, a massive 1TB a month...makes orange look positively crap with 750mb) i will jailbreak it and take my pick of the sim offers available at that time.
  • Just have a couple of questions maybe some of you can answer:

    a) Can you pre-order this, going via Quidco and picking up from in-store on Monday?

    b) Do you have to pay for the roaming internet after 12 months, or does that merely apply to the BT Openzone access?

    Many thanks

Called Tesco CS and was told that internet is subject to fair usage which is 1TB a month, i.e. 1000GB, which is MUCH more than orange...
  • Since Tesco Mobile uses O2's network, is there a good chance that O2's 3G capacity will be filled to the brim? I've heard their 3G data speeds aren't very good already, so starting on Monday, things could get even worse?!
