MSE News: Ryanair to charge for Visa Electron bookings

To update on my previous posts above, Neteller have answered my query directly and advise that, as irishpancake understood, they do not charge the £10 Net+ card replacement fee on cards issued to replace expired Net+ cards (only replacements requested to replace lost, damaged, etc cards). So on that basis (and solely for my infrequent Ryanair bookings) the Net+ card seems the best option for me.0

Hi guys. It is so interested to read the messages of some of you who complain that Neteller is charging some sort of fees, like replacing lost cards, transfer from credit cards, etc.
Come on, don't be naive, Neteller is also a business and needs to make money somehow. It's not a charity organization. Just the fact that they are currently offering the best deal on PrePaid MasterCard and helping us save 100s on Ryanair booking fees (unfortunately, I fly a lot with Ryanair), is already a big favor. I am so excited to have discovered Net+. It has been a real Xmas present.0 -
As Neteller charge you if, you use a currency different to the one you put in your original application,;would it be ok to apply for 1 physical, in say Sterling & the other say virtal in euros ??That way your not charged anything at all ?0

is the neteller viewed more favourably than the fairfx card recommended by martin as I was about to sign up for that one0

Fair play for getting this info premierfella.
I would say this makes Neteller Net+ Card a strong contender for best value prepaid card :j0 -
As I'm an O2 customer their Prepaid card looks good for me. I'm a bit confused though as both of their sample cards displayed on their website are Visa cards. It does say though, O2 prepaid card is issued by National Westminster Bank Plc pursuant to license by MasterCard international incorporated.
So if Ryanair want a Mastercard and O2's are Visa, they are no use.
Can anyone help?0 -

O2 Visa can be used as Electron, but from 1 January O2 prepaid is no good. I also looked into that one, but left that thought now.0 -
I know it's not regarding Ryannair but prepaid cards in general... but there is no specific thread for Wizzair.
Wizzair accept Freedom card, which is a prepaid mastercard... however that card isn't any good, first you need to pay 10 pounds plus extra loading fees and I think even they charge u something for spending the money...
the question is, if it says on their website that they accept Freedom card without charging u, will they accept other mastercard prepaid without charging you? or will they still charge you because it's not a Freedom Card.
that's bit not fair, that they force u to have a card from a specific company...
anyone knows anything how to beat their booking fees? or that's it?
because from what I fly freedom card is definately not worth it and it's better just to give up and pay the fee.0 -

It seems that Wizz Air allow these methods of payment for booking:
Freedom Card, Wizz Credit Card** (until 15th April 2010): no booking charge
Bank Transfer: 2.50 EUR / 2 GBP (Per flight per passenger)
Solo, UK Maestro: 2.50 EUR / 2 GBP (Per flight per passenger)
MasterCard, Visa, Diners Club: 5 EUR / 4 GBP (Per flight per passenger)
So, there does not seem to be any obvious way to beat the fees, without using the Freedom Card or the very very reasonable(not) Wizz Air CC. They don't appear to accept any other Prepaid MasterCard or Visa cards.
See extensive list of Service Fees charged by Wizzair here:

**Because it is worth applying for Wizz Air Credit Card just now!
The annual fee of Wizz Air Credit Card is only 3 990 HUF. APR (Annual Percentage Rate): 43.99%.
If you apply for Wizz Air Credit Card at Erste Bank till 31 December 2009, the annual fee of the primary card and the partner card is 0 forint. APR: 42.49%
In addition, if you have a Wizz Air Credit Card, you can pay with your credit card without reservation fee on Wizz Air’s home page or via hot-line service till 15 April 2010.

I have taken out a Caxton FX Global Traveller Card to use for booking Ryanair flights. I see Martin favours the FairFx Anywhere card "where the only charge is 1.5% of the transaction amount each time you spend on it." But isn't Caxton a better deal? It insists the £1.50 transaction fee it charges in the UK doesn't apply to Ryanair (a non-UK company), which appears to make Caxton completely free of fees.
Has anyone tried a Caxton FX Global Traveller card yet, to see if really is fee free?0
