Tuxedo reckon to give you a £5 credit, so I guess the card costs you £5.
£1 charge if there are no transactions within 30 days. Same card as the Sun.

The Sun refund the purchase price if you top up by £20: http://www.thesunprepaid.co.uk/tariff.html
  • For me the Caxton FX Global Card seems best as it doesn't charge a £1 monthly fee like The Sun / Tuxedo card.

Am I going mad, or is the Caxton FX Global Card the best value?

As stated above, the £1 fee only applies if you don't use the card. Surely you could buy a newspaper or something with it once a month? I know it's a bit of a hassle, but...

The Caxton card looks pretty good, although the high transaction charge (£1.50) could mount up pretty quickly if you buy a lot of flights. Once you've used it 7 times it becomes more expensive than the Phones4U card.

As it appears to be impossible to have a Mastercard prepaid card in the UK without some sort of charge I hope the OFT will show some balls and prevent Ryanair from advertising fares without a card fee added.
  • is the FairFX card included in this? I know its in euros but the comission would be lower than the fees on some of the other cards?

    hey folks,

we are finalising our research on the top Mastercard Prepaid card, but it looks like either the

ICE Travellers Cashcard (loaded in Sterling) http://www.iceplc.com/cashcard

    or

Caxton FX Global Traveller Card http://www.caxtonfxcard.com/cards_description.asp

More info will go in this week's email

Yes, but then there's the extra 50p purchase charge with the newspaper.

Phones4u is only any good if you have a shop local to you.

I'm thinking of either sticking with the MoneySupermarket first choice of Bread, as I only fly Ryanair when it's really cheap.

Can't be bothered with the high maintenance of the Sun/Tuxedo card or the complicated paying in fee structure of the Phones4u.

The bread card seems quite interesting. Although slightly put off by the £1.50 charge per transaction. I was used to this with Electron when paying with euro but not sterling.

Looks like I'm going to get additional charges whatever way I do it with one of these cards, it's just a case of trying to keep it as low as possible now.

This is the discussion thread for the following MSE News Story:

"Ryanair will charge passengers to book flights using a Visa Electron card from next year..."

    OfficialStamp.gif

The two threads have been merged to avoid duplication. Thanks to hsbcarter for the original post.

Will MSE ever be able to produce a balanced 'News Article' on Ryanair?
    Gone ... or have I?
