  • I wouldn't recommend wrapping paper as it tears too easily but I have bought some gift boxes in here that I haven't seen cheaper elsewhere. Also weightwatchers crisps and biccies are much cheaper.
The cheap pregnancy tests are also fine, I know people who have stocked up when trying for a baby, much cheaper than any other shop. Also Original Source shower gel refill - bargain as it is £2.92 in Tesco's.

    Ooh the first to reply!

I saw bags of sugar in my local pound shop, a bag of sugar doesn't cost £1 so thought that was a bit of a rip off. Shall look out for more ;)

the bags of sugar on the pound shop are 1.5 kilos as to the usual 1 kilo this does work out cheaper.:j
  • I find the postage items are good value. Pack of 6 large padded envelopes for £1. Great when selling on Ebay etc

  • I think it's like anything you buy...you need to know your prices. Shops are forever changing their prices and special offers, so as long as you know roughly how much it retails at 'generally' (for whatever item you want to buy) then you will know if the £1 stores are good value for that item.
I'm going down there later today to see if they have an of that insulation strip (to put round windows and stuff). I doubt I can get it that cheap anywhere else.
Just be sensible and don't impulse buy! (as is easy to do in these shops!)
They usually have good offers on crisp. Like space raiders (which over here in Bristol are hard to get hold of unless in a variety bag with other crisps) they usually have a 15packs for £1 (haha! £1!! in a pound shop, lol!).
Yes, space raiders are my vice! :rotfl:
  • I bought a karaoke microphone for my daughter from the poundshop, if you held up to your lips and shouted really loud into it, you could almost hear it - waste of a pound.

The recordable blank DVD's /CD packs can be bought cheaper elsewhere too, in fact almost anywhere
    I need a better signature

Be careful which ones they are - Poundland sell 1.5KG bags which work out pretty cheap but 1KG bags would be dear - in any case you can currently get 1KG of sugar from Poundstretcher for 59p.

In our pound shop the sugar is 1.5kg not 1kg like you normally buy in the supermarket for ninety odd pence, so is a bargain.

    They were 1kg bags, I checked. ;)

  • Vanish stain remover spray! £1 in Poundland, £1.70 plus in the supermarkets. With a 2 year old I get through gallons of the stuff! As their stocks often run out I'm always in there looking and I bulk buy for me and my friend when they get new stock in. It must've saved us a fortune over the last year... The Whizz stain remover powder they sell works just as well as vanish too, massive saving on supermarkets....

The pregnancy tests work perfectly actually! Do exactly the same job as the more expensive ones but save you anything upwards of a fiver against other well known brands.
I agree, the pregnancy tests should not be on the "Don't buy" thread - they work perfectly fine.
  • I find giftwrap ribbons/bows a fantastic deal. I bought a bag of 50 for a pound, and found Wilko selling 4 fancy ribbons for the same price! I'm still using the bag of ribbons, which I bought 2 years ago - granted I've only got purple, ivory, green, red, pink, and gold - but hey! Who's fussy!?
