Great 'What NOT to buy in Pound Shops' Hunt
Comments

I bought a card reader for £1. Currys sell similar product for £12-£15. I've had it for several months now and its still working great, so some buys can be good from pound shops. But just bought some Xmas bows to stick on presents and after pulling off the tab there was no adhesive left on the bow, so had to buy some more elsewhere. Never mind I saved on the card reader.:j0

Pound shops are great if you don't mind trawling round every few weeks to see what they have - the good stuff never stays on the shelves long.
I've bought some bulbs for planting, some of which came up beautifully and some have yet to make an appearance (I'm guessing they won't now!) but that can happen with more expensive ones too.0 -
It is only cheap if Duracell batteries goes under 40p each. Sometimes pound shop sell them 2 for £1 which is not cheap. Go for those buy 8, free 8 packs etc sometines in Boots, TescoDirect and gives better value.Just to pick up on the comment of the batteries being rubbish...
In Poundland and 99p store they have Alkaline batteries which are fantastic and the cheapest anywhere.
Just look closely at the specification.
Alkaline batteries are the ones to go for!0 -
Poundland sell Simple Shampoo and Conditioner for a pound each (obviously!) same product in boots £2.50 each! Thats a saving on £3, Bodycare sell it for £1.50 and they only sell the shampoo0

dont buy baby wipes from the pound shops - they are usually 6 for 5 quid in Asda or Sainsbury's:j0

I love the fixed price shops, I get aftershave reguarly which is a bargain. As for the pricey things, most of the stuff in the food section seems expensive compared to supermarketsWycombe Till I Die0

Maybe slightly off-topic, but as people here seem to be interested in batteries, I am extremely impressed by any-batteries dot co dot uk. A 'proper' sony lithium battery for my digital camera would have cost £60! The spare I bought from these people is a not-well-known brand, listed as a suitable replacement for my camera on their site, arrived quickly and lasts longer per charge than the 'proper' original does, and cost me about £15 - still in regular use around 4 years later.0

Don't buy the Tuna fish as my kids hate it and their can openers don't work as I bought 2 different ones and one broke straight away and the other one would not work. Other than that I have had some great bargains and love to go in there. I just use my common sense and if somethings are not worth it there are lots of other bargains to make up for it.0

To be honest, a lot of places are now competing directly with the pound shop, as people seem to be shopping there a lot thinking its always a bargain.
For example, Wilkinsons have nearly the same stuff as the pound shop i.e Shampoo, Kitchen roll etc as well as many other things that the £ sells. Only Wilkos has them, all at 97p to undercut the £1 shops. I know its only 3p an item, and there may well be cheaper places than here. But £ shop isn't always best anymore.Live for what tomorrow has to bring, not what yesterday has taken away0 -
Bought a pack of Office Sellotape 1" wide - 5 rolls for a quid at Poundland. It's good and sticky so a real bargain.0
