I found tonights installment of corrie quite offensive tonight, regarding the comments one character said about the armed services and the poppy appeal. it was quite uncalled for.
anyone else see it and what did they think?

All the big powers they've silenced me. So much for free speech and choice on this fundamental human right, and outing the liars.

Why complain about it, its a TV entertainment show that attempts (badly) to replicate life in a grotty suburb of fantasia... its a fact of life that people say things that others dislike, so why are you supprised that the TV follows?
Lets be honest, there are people out "in the wild" with an active dislike for the armed forces and anything related to them.
You can always vote with your fingers, but beware, there are a bucket load of TV progs on that are potentially more offensive than corrie....
At one time people would just brush such things off and get on with more important things, but in this modern world it seems that so many get upset or even offended at the slightest thing and have to go bleating to any regulatory body they can..........................At times any combination of my spelling, grammar or punctuation may be incorrect. Please do not pick me up for this as, after all, it is only an internet forum.0 -
Its a soap, it is not real life and anyone that takes any offence needs to get out moremortui non mordent0

Did you watch the scene fully? If you had, you would find that the character was immediately put in their place by two other characters.
I was impressed by the way that they brought the issue into the storyline, and hopefully it will prompt conversations between younger people and their elders on the topic.Gone ... or have I?0 -
It was portrayed as offensive, the story theme did not condone it, so no need to complain.Blackpool_Saver is female, and does not live in Blackpool0

Why complain about it?? It's a tv show and like dmg24 said it brought the issue into the story.
I was asked the other day what the red thing on my coat was for so I told them it was a poppy and the lady started to ask me why I was wearing it and what it was for.
In a way I was a little taken aback by it as I automatically assumed that everyone knew what the poppy was for.If At First You Don't Succeed, Call It Version 1.00 -
If you complain what do you think they will do? If they publicly flogged the character, would that do?Feudal Britain needs land reform. 70% of the land is "owned" by 1 % of the population and at least 50% is unregistered (inherited by landed gentry). Thats why your slave box costs so much..0

What did he say? I missed that bit. There's a storm coming, Mr Johnson. You and your friends better batten down the hatches, because when it hits, you're all gonna wonder how you ever thought you could live so large and leave so little for the rest of us.0
