  • If John Lewis do the model get them to price match it... you'll even get a 5 year warranty with them! :D

Another thing you need to consider when choosing your new TV...

    - what material are you mainly gonna be watching... standard TV? Bluray? Sky HD? Gaming consoles?

If your gonna be watching a lot of "normal" resolution stuff then having 1080p is of no major benefit... as the TV will be constantly re-scaling the picture anyway... if you go for a say 42" and have a viewing distance of more than 8 feet or so then you will be hard pushed to tell the difference between 720 and 1080p anyway...

Also it's worth noting that many (if not all) LCDs and Plasmas in shops are set up at showroom settings which tend to make LCD look better than plasma in a well lit bright shop... they look much different when you put them in your subtly lit living room!

Also in controlled conditioned surveys plasma tends to come out with better results based on subjective opinions on black reproduction, response time, depth of colour etc.

Lol totally ignore bosseyed, he has no clue what he is talking about. I don't think a single point was correct.

Saw this on hotukdeals today, very good price a 46in Full HD Panny Plasma. I have a 42in Panasonic plasma (PX80) and it still blows me away every time. It ran next to my housemates 40in LCD for about six months, I won't need to say which one we ALWAYS chose to watch. They are getting better but every LCD I see still looks washed out and fake after using the plasma.
  • lcd or plasma there's only one way to find out .......FIGHT lol
  • If you're going to go down the plasma route, then i highly recommend the latest Panasonic 50" G10 or V10 which are almost as good as the Pioneer Kuros (ie almost identical black levels, similar level of SD/HD processing) but without the hefty price tag:

Panasonic TX-P50G10 50" £910 (ok its Dixons but believe it or not, they do sometimes offer good service!)

    Panasonic TX-P50V10 50" £1249

You missed this in my post #14 on page 1 then...

As mentioned above by downhillfast get John Lewis to price match and get a huge warranty thrown in, they'll price match any store with a real high street shop, but not internet only stores, which is fair enough.

I don't know why people are treating samsung's LED backlit TVs like they're slabs of god's own beard.

They're thin, yes, but are still LCD tvs!!!!!!!

The sound is awful, the LED 6000 actually has less features than the LCD 6000 and the picture quality is no different.

They do have good contrast ratio because of the LEDs being able to dim locally but that makes them awful for gaming.

People are acting like Samsung invented LED tvs when sony's been using LED backlights in their X series sets since about 2004...

Get a 46" Panasonic G10, they're ace, or even a 46 inch W5500 from sony (theyre nice too).

This is true. Plasmas aren't able to go as bright as an LCD set, but in shops with bright lights, they need to be as bright as possible so people can see them. if you were to use the same setting at home, your eyes would melt.

Panasonic's plasmas have got beautiful colours and depth so i'd recommend them.
  • I heard someone say that it does not matter what size you buy it will shrink an inch every month and its true my 46" in the lounge looks more like my 32" I have in the bedroom.

Right went into television center can't remember what it was called the new LEDs are awesome but out of our price range :rotfl:
i liked the look of the Panasonic TX-50 S10 Plasma
1080p, 400HZ etc he said the 600HZ was really a 50 Hz just more of them to make up the 600 he said the 400Hz was a better Tele ?
((By the way its way way above my head :rotfl:))
Just had a quick look on price checker and it has Dixons down as best price £872.31 ??? Must be somewhere a lot better than that ??
but must be a Buy now pay later job :T

what does people think to this panasonic one the guy in the shop said it was the best 50" plasma he had & he had loads of differant makes & some dearer than this
    Many thanks for the help

Sorry for mad triple posting, but:

the refresh rate quoted on the plasmas as 400hz/600hz etc isn't the same as the refresh rate on LCD sets.

On plasmas you will notice a little star on the label and "sub field drive". What that means is that the TV fires the plasma up 400 or 600 times a second in such a way that it burns brighter, but more economically than on previous generations. This is no way related to motion, as it's not really relevant on plasmas due to their fast response times.

The S10 is a good set, but it's not up to the quality of panasonic's neoPDP sets (basically their premium range). G10, V10 and Z1 are the best three they do. Z1 is basically what Pioneer would have made had they not pulled out of the TV race (panasonic bought the tech and rebranded it).

The benefits of the Neo PDP sets is better colour, sound, more robust screen, freesat, and a bunch of other things. Check reviews and product descriptions to see if any of the benefits interest you.

Richer Sounds have both the G10 and S10 available.

Check the specs and take your pick. They both contain the same actual screen, and the G10 adds FreesatHD, which alone would make it worth it for me. You would need a sat dish for it though...
    LCD does better blacks?!!
    Regassing?!!
    Gimme a break!
