We have a PS2 (which they also have to share) and this has been pretty good - but I don't like to spend money on something that has a poor track record for reliability: especially since these items are not (at least to my mind) in any way reasonably priced!
Are they repairable, and what sort of costs does this involve?
The 360 has had an extension to the standard warranty to 3 years for the RROD (red ring of death) and E74 error. If it happens you contact Microsoft and they arrange a courier to collect your console, deal with it and return it in about 7-10 days. You also get a complimentary 1 month subscription to XBL. My Jasper Console hasn't had any problems yet, and I've had it a good while now.
I've just renewed my 12 month Live subscription for £26, code delivered within an hour.0 -
I made the same decision not so long ago. What clinched it for me was the realisation that I would not be able to plug the PS3 into my VGA monitor (not HDCP). So be aware if you think you might want to do that.
My first XBox failed with RROD. I bought a new one, the hardware is much better and comes with 3 year RROD warranty, so don't worry about that. Three years from now both consoles will be obsolete!

So they may be: but that doesn't mean I will be buying them another one:D.
We don't do "obsolete" here, and we only throw out what is so old and decrepit that it cannot be repaired! I'm next on the list!:o"there are some persons in this World who, unable to give better proof of being wise, take a strange delight in showing what they think they have sagaciously read in mankind by uncharitable suspicions of them"(Herman Melville)0 -
Many thanks for the explanation for the failure Flinger and anewhope! Seems as if I have no further argument against having yet another techie toy in the house:mad: so I should probably give in gracefully and get the best deal I can!
Apparently it just has to be Xbox as they want Forza and Halo so if those are available on the Argos deal then that sounds pretty good!

I'll go with PS3 and I'm addicted to uncharted Game on that.0

I decided to splash out on the X Box Super Elite + MW2 + Forza 3. Oh Joy!"A nation's greatness is measured by how it treats its weakest members." ~ Mahatma Gandhi
