this is the reason I stick to windows mobiles. so if any1 who's into apps, especially 'free' ones, better go for a windows mobiles or iphone, even android phones.
  • a colleague of mine was given a Nokia N900 (they are a client) and I've had a quick little play on the basic UI and menus (not had a look at anything involving data thus far) and I have to say my initial verdict is somewhat muted...

Aesthetically, it is big and substantial - sits OK in the hand but heavier than most smartphones currently available. Build quality feels good and the slide keyboard is pretty solid. But the size of the device isn't going to be right for people used to sleeker and slimmer phones and the finish doesn't have the metallic sheen of the iPhone or the latest Blackberry's. You could argue for understatement, but for a top-end device, it's not going to be on the podium of any beauty pagent...

Menus are reasonably signposted but it didn't feel all that intuitive to use - the iPhone has set a benchmark and the Maemo 5 OS isn't as slick. I've not 'read the manual', but it took a bit of effort getting to the dial screen and text messaging - definitely feel these shortcuts should automatically placed on the desktop. Graphically it looks nice enough and has familiar Nokia look about it, albeit in a new interface.

Hopefully get another look at it later, but I haven't been won over thus far...

Can someone explain why a whole section of this thread has just been deleted? It related to the mobiles.co.uk representative and the UK release date of the N900... Isn't there enough of a lack of information on this thing without censoring innocent discussion and speculation on the matter!

I guess it was seen as touting for business - it's difficult to answer questions here not directly about an issue with my company, unfortunately, no matter how hard I try to make it obviously neutral. It's either reported as touting by someone or interpreted as such by the mods, and it's their forum so...

I guess all I can say is that, in answer to the OP, deals should become apparent shortly everywhere that will be selling the device and on all the networks it's approved on.

    Regards,
    Official Company Representative
I am the official company representative of Mobiles.co.uk. MSE has given permission for me to post in response to queries about the company, so that I can help solve issues. You can see my name on the companies with permission to post list. I am not allowed to tout for business at all. If you believe I am please report it to forumteam@moneysavingexpert.com This does NOT imply any form of approval of my company or its products by MSE"

    Regards,

how long or on what date do you think it will be made available to us what companies are selling the divice and what networks they will be on ? just a general question, not relating to any company or network.

    thank you

Don't know why you now want to be seen as a martyr.

You know exactly what you are doing when you are touting, and have had much worse on other (moderated) forums than just a few posts deleted for spamming!

Good grief! He was only NOT ANSWERING a question put to him! This fiasco of a product launch that is the N900 could do with someone who knows what is going on because Vodafone won't say a word, nor T-Mobile, O2, Orange, Three (other networks are available!!). Not even Nokia will say anything - I got a response by email direct from Nokia a few days ago denying there was an official UK release date, even though you can now buy one in a Nokia store (other stores are available!!!!!!) :|
Do you really think in light of this kind of frankly bizarre situation that what was posted was that much of a problem?

Perhaps you could explain what exactly was wrong with what was said? PM or open on the forums, I don't mind - I'm just curious to know...
