Is Mobile Phones Direct trustworthy? They have come up time and time again when searching for the N900 and is the cheapest, but I have no experience of them.

Well, they link through the the Nokia Retail website, and their "About" section states:
Nokia Retail is operated by Mobile Phones Direct Ltd, Nokia UK's branded retail store partner.
Seems unlikely that Nokia would allow such extensive Nokia branding and that on a partner site if they were disreputable...
  • I bought my first ever phone from them and had no problems. They have stores in lots of my local towns, although the better deals are available online.

They are excellent for HTC phones and Nokia, and slightly lacking in other manufacturers. I'm happy to be corrected - I haven't actually been a customer for several years - but I went into a store the other week before opting for my Motorola Dext and they were helpful but couldn't match their online deal which was £5 a month cheaper.

It's a very, very nice device and a big improvement on the N97's OS, by the way. No bigger than an N97 but much more "laptop" than "big phone" (like the HD2).

I've been using touchscreen smartphones since about 2003 (P800) and this is the first Nokia that I'd consider for myself.

    Happy hunting :)

The N900 & Motorola droid (touchstone) are two rather nice looking powerful devices.

    - First proper linux smartphone from Nokia
    - first interesting phone from motorola in years (android 2.0)

On the wish list for contract renewal (Feb 2010), although may have to comprimise due to price!

  • So much for the November 19th release Nokia promised 3 months ago.
Typical Nokia. Will be nicely stung by 17.5% (or higher) VAT in January.

    Do something amazing. GIVE BLOOD.
  • I have been chasing details on the release of this for ages. I have spoken to mobile phones direct (very helpfull lot i might add) and the latest position is that the phones are with the distributors. The latest release date is 2nd December and this looks highly likely.

I would pre-order but I want to keep my Vodafone number so am awaiting the Upgrade option to be offered.

I doubt anyone other than Nokia and MFD will be offering this phone on contract till the new year.

If it helps i was in 2 minds on whether to get an n900 or HTC HD2 but basicly gave up waiting on nokia, personally i would be a bit worried now that the n900 has been put out in too much of a hurry to fix the probs the n97 had. Firmware tweaks at this stage are really not a good sighn.

FYI i got a phone from MFD and it turned up in under 24 hrs, their website is god awful though, i had to install chrome as it isnt IE6 compatible!!!

I would worry if i ever had problems as their customer services didnt seem to be able to do anything even tell me if my order had gone through after their site crashed internet explorer.
