My guess is your next move is to take the refund, and put it towards the repairs to your car.
And let them get away with it? What happens when you next call the AA out at 2am and they decide to refund your premium because they can't be bothered to send someone out? Responsibility rests on both sides of the contract.
Definitely lodge a complaint in writing and make a FOS complaint. I would also write o Honest John in the Daily Telegraph because he recommends WD all the time: https://www.honestjohn.co.uk and may be able to embarrass them into coughing up.The man without a signature.0 -
I'm more frustrated about the fact that they originally told me i could not claim (without inspecting the car first) and that i couldn't get a refund for trying to claim.
With the fact that i had payed for a service that was offering me NOTHING, i decided to try and progress a claim, and this seemed to be going through untill they used the 'non VAT registered garage' excuse for stopping the claim, and then wanting more details on the service when i explained it was done BEFORE the policy was bought.
I was hoping to receive the details they wanted and fax them off today, but instead they decide that i can now cancel, and don't even call to ask if i still want to (bearing in mind the claim was still in progress).
So from a 'you can't cancel and you can't claim' stand, to a 'you might be able to claim if you provide ..... but we are going to cancel instead after your request two weeks ago'.
The garage that has my car are convinced that my car should have been eligible for a genuine claim, and i think warranty direct have realised this and decided my policy is cheaper to refund.
I hope nobody else gets caught out like this.0 -
You could still put the gist of your last post in a letter to them, say that you had a valid warranty and a valid claim and that you will take them to court in 14 days if they don't agree to pay for the repair. You don't have much to lose except the cost of the small claim whereas they have much more to lose i.e. the claim and the cost of defending it if they choose to.
As I said earlier, these warranty companies will try to get out of any claim and treat all premiums as pure profit.0 -
I had a contract with Warranty Direct for nearly two years without making any claims. Then I had a problem which I explained to them over the phone. They agreed I was covered and I could use my own mechanic, who also spoke to them, the repair was done and the invoice sent to them (about £600 ). I did everything they asked including sending photgraphs. However because my mechanic was not VAT registered they refused to pay. It seems to me they sit back and take your money month after month, then when a claim is made they try their hardest to get out of it. Their adverts actually state we dont hide behind the small print. I have repeatedly asked them to return my invoice, which they completely ignore. Needless to say I am no longer giving them my money, and would deter anyone else from doing so.0

I don't know any warranty scheme that will allow you to use a non-VAT registered business. Think about it: The warranty provider will be able to reclaim VAT on the repair. If everyone they insure starts using a non-VAT garage then the cost of the premiums will need to cover the additional 17.5%-20%.The man without a signature.0
