Warranty Direct problems

  • I know the one and only time I took out such a warranty that they stated the vehicle must be serviced at an VAT registered garage. How can they state standards are or aren't met by VAT status.

See the tread about Fords/Masterfit cheaper service, isn't part of that about not being to Ford service standards. Does that mean it VAT free?

Exactly my point. The level of service has nothing to do with VAT staus, and in all honesty I couldn't have taken the car to a better garage. Both the mechanics are qualified master technicians, and I was stood next them as they worked on my car. Every turn of the spanner was seen by myself, so I know exactly what work was done to the car. I wouldn't get that at a dealers.
  • It seems the warranty companies have the view.

    No VAT= backstreet.

I think it's more if turnover is less than £68k then they aren't a full time garage. It's really to stop you servicing DIY or mates

Also no VAT = higher premiums as the warranty company cannot reclaim the VAT.

    How does that work?

  • It is not a fine, it is a fee. It is actually £500, not £450 at present but is based on the prevailing rates at the time FOS finishes with it.

But don't try to blackmail them with it - that could result in it simply being thrown out as a vexatious complaint.

This makes sense if the warranty repair work was being done at a non VAT registered garage, but this is a service that was done prior to the policy, and should make no difference to the costs in this case.
The garage who have my car at the moment are VAT registered, so there is no reason not to allow the work to go ahead.
  • ...and people wonder why my advice is always not to bother with warranties.
  • In theory £240 is a small price to pay, but now it just seems to be an additional cost.
I won't be getting another one in the future.

Is it because the words "written on paper worth not the the're" has somethong to do with it?
