:rotfl: didn't you do 10k Snaggles...albeit horizontal (or is it vertical) I can never remember.....

We did say that actually :rotfl: in fact he said he didn't have anything to note in his online training log for this weekend, and I was trying to persuade him to just pick 'other' as the exercise type, and in the description field just put '6 hours....;)'.

This one is good - it says based on 1:07 10k you should be able to do 2:29 - I do find my times drop off at higher distances though.

For example I can currently run a 52 min 10k (did so in training last week), which should make my half about 1:55 - but I doubt I can run that at the moment...

You can also use it to set your training paces - the boxes on the side 'endurance' and 'stamina' work outs are very helpful :D

Thanks for that, I will save it in my favourites so I don't lose it.

I find I get gradually faster up to the 8k mark, then start to slow down, I guess down to stamina, which is good because I can work on that over winter. My first 2k is always sooooo slow, so I need to work on a way to improve that too. Maybe a more effective warm-up would help.

I warm up before all races except marathon - usually just a mile or two, but I do 5k before a 5k so I can start fully warmed up and at full pace :D

Jeez....all this running talk is making me feel like a lazy slob. I'll be going to the gym after work but for a swim - properly....head under and everthing :)

I am a little bit tempted to start running. I do about 20 mins on the treadmill at the gym, but from what I gather 'proper' running is easier?

There is a runclub near me which I could join, but am scared that I'd be the one at the back huffing and puffing like a good 'un. My fitness levels are not the best, but I have managed to lose about a stone and a half in the last 6 months (a lot of which I think I probably put back on last week sitting at home eating carp!!).

I think I can try a couple of sessions without committing myself to joining.

really....it's not hard to understand :T

Run club wise I think it depends on what you want - Linda (Bank_of_slate) has found hers fantastic and really enjoyable and motivating but I know I wouldnt enjoy getting dragged along at someone elses pace/length etc - I like running to be my own thing so go along and try it out definitely before you commit - am sure you wont be the slowest anyway :D

Motivation is definitely what I need Becky....otherwise I sort of forget to go or schedule something else instead. I'm one of these weak-willed sorts who gets better results if I join a club.

I find treadmill running much harder than outdoor running. There are some advantages - nice, constant temperature, no hills, no wind, no rain (although I like running in the rain), no people, no dogs. But because you are looking at the same view all the time, there is very little mental stimulation, and for me that means I never really get 'in the zone' and push myself.

It's a huge mental challenge to keep going and not just think 'I've had enough now, think I'll get off'. You can't do that running outside - when you're 3 miles from home there's only one way to get back, so it forces you on.

I do tend to get faster times outside when I have done a few treadmill sessions though.

  • Afternoon all,

I'm exhausted after reading about all that running! Might have to have a nibble on a bar of chocolate to replenish the energy levels!! :rotfl:

Not sure if Elfins around but next Sunday David Tennant's on Jo W's show on Radio 1!!
