Thanks to everyone for your opinions/words of wisdom. I have been thinking of nothing but this all day in work and thinking about your posts. So here are some replys :D If I havn't replyed directly its because I have answered in pooky's reply ;)

Pooky, I do want out of where I am now but I have roughly until May 1st to find a job. Not that anything will happen on May the 1st, I won't be out of a job or anything but thats just when I feel I need to move on. I really don't mind the job, and I don't mind my employer (to a certain extent) however the team I work within has fallen appart. So days I love to work, other I dread going in, I don't want to work like that anymore. This new job seems easier and its closer. However its not a carrer, it would be a short term fix until I find a new job or the same thing happens there.

The 0% is a store card, its £90 and it needs repaying before June 15th. I can't transfer it onto my credit card I have now at 3% so I don't think I will get a 0% card. Especially as I will have to declare what would be my new wage on the application :(

Here is the 'forecast' I have never done anything like this before so forgive me if its wrong...

    April 2010 - March 2011

    Essential's
    £240.00 ~ Pension
    £1,440.00 ~ rent
    £192.00 ~ house ins
    £150.00 ~ line rental
    £252.00 ~ internet
    £480.00 ~ Cambridge

    Debt/up and coming
    £90.00 ~ Argos (by June 15th)
£70.00 ~ holiday spends needed May 17th (min)
£120.00 ~ Credit card min repayments
£108.87 ~ remaining debt (after min repayments above)

    Luxurys
    £100.00 ~ Christmas
    £40.00 ~ Mums birthday
    £150.00 ~ banana man
£30.00 ~ travel (train tickets to RFL & throughout the year)
    £40.00 ~ toiletries

    = £3,502.87

    Current job
    Income ~ £6,000.00 (no overtime after tax/ni/pension)
    Expenses ~ £3,502.87 - £240.00 pension + £528.00 commute = £3,790.87
    Remaining ~ £2,209.13

    New job
    Income ~ £4,752.00 (no overtime before tax/ni)
    Expenses ~ £3,502.87
    Remaining ~ £1,249.13

The new job does indeed offer 'development' but thats only supervisor which is actually the hourly wage I am on now :o And store manager which is £1,500/£1,875 a month before tax etc. However the latter two you can be posted through the south west.

The holiday is a hard one. The min I would need is £70.00 however on 'usual' holiday I generally take £150.00 and rarely spend under £120.00. Its hard because I usually pay for entry's one day and Mum another, we tray and do free things but most of the time we visit 3 'attractions'. I have nothing left to ebay sadly. the only thing I have that I could is my laptop but they barely reach £100 (eee pc) and as my pc is now 5years+ I want to keep it as a back up.
Forget the money for one moment and look at each job for what it offers....which one do you really want? Which one offers the best chance of moving forwards? If you want it enough, you CAN make it work.
If I take moeny out of the equation of course I will take the new job. I would be silly not to. I do want it but looking it as a package everything is right except the money. I will/could make it work the next few months but the holiday/0% is a problem, a big one!

    Hey PAP

Then you have your answer. Money isn't everything and it can be worked out. You need to go with what you really want or the opportunity will be gone.

    Emily xx

Emily, I do agree that mnoney isn't everything but to put it into context... I am still living at home at 25, I still can't drive yet I passed 2+ years ago beacuse I can't afford a car, I will still not be in a carrer just floating and will still be in the same place a years down the line...

I am not saying I will get stuck there, of course if I hate it I can then leave and find a 'better' job. I can of course get 1/2 more jobs to supplement my income. My fear is I will take this job to get out of the other one. I will then become complacent, get in a grove and stick there. I will then look back 4 years down the line (I have been in my current job 4 years, that was 'supposed' to be a stop gap too) and be in exactly the same place, still no 'life', still no place of my own, still no car.

I guess its fear of change too. Its different if I was heading for a f/t job because I will get stuck into it. The pay will be better which means I can move forward with my life and ultimately have a better future. I am not saying I can't here but its a gamble and a decision thats hard. If I knew what will happen either way of course I can decide but right now I can't :rotfl:

I sway from not taking it to taking it and hoping for the best within hours of eachother. Maybe I just need to take a leap of faith Shrug_by_melonhead_emotion.gif

Still confused but forever plodding :rotfl:

If you can turn the job down and not ever think "what if" then don't take it.

If there's any seed of doubt, take it and deal with the consequences....be it working there for 2 months and moving on or staying there and moving up in the company.

Taking a risk is sometimes the best thing you can do.

I do have to ask though.......banana man???

    Hi Pap

I feel for you, I hate it when I have to make a decision!

Is there a reason why you only work part time? Is it just lack of available full time jobs?

PAP, I agree with Pooky. I left the best paying job I've ever had five years ago, I moved to another job which was much less money and less hours. But that move meant that I found a career path, change can be good or bad but as Pooky said, will you always wonder otherwise. Money isn't everything and is a tight few months worth it?

Well done Pap! I agree with Pooky too - it sounds like it would have more prospects than where you currently are, it would give you some different experience and contacts if nothing else.

Oh and also, yes... err. banana man?! :D

Hi guys, so an update... After reading some of your posts last night and thinking of nothing else all night/day I have decided to go for it! It can be one of the worse things I can ever do it could be one of the best, but I think Pooky mentioning regrets really put it in a different light. After all if it goes wrong I can find another job, its not as if I will/have to be there forever :D

So I contacted the company but its all in their court now. They wanted me to leave and start work next Tuesday which I can't do. So obviously if they want me I need 2 full clear weeks before I start. So I phoned them and asked for a different start date etc etc. Although while I was on the phone I did drop into the conversation about maybe going to my really local store (the one that started this all off) as they have just released 4 job there which are exactly the same and its 1min away. The lady said she would return my call 4 hours ago on both points... I guess I will phone back tomorrow now :o

So I don't really know whats happening but fingers crossed they can move my date, and moving the store would be a huge bonus. I just hope I havn't rock the boat too much and they tell me to take a hike :rotfl:

So then its back to money/plodding. I have kinda asked Mum if she could lend me half of my 0% debt money until I am back on my feet however playing with it I think I can clear it alone... If I am frugal. The reasons are when payday's fall with both jobs.... So for instance if I leave my current place of work on the 12th... I am unsure if the new job will be weekly/monthly paid I think its weekly with no 'month' in advance. So working on that....

    Paid 15th April (1st March -31st) = £500.00
    Paid 15th May (1st April - 12th) = £130.00

    Paid 30th April (13th April - 30th) = £195.00
    Paid 31st May (1st May - 31st) = £390.40

    April total ~ £695.00 - Outgoings £423.50 = £271.50 left
    May total ~ £520.40 - Outgoings £339.50 = £180.90 left
    June total ~ £390.40 - Outgoings £379.50 = £10.90 left (5 week cambridge)

So if I have this right and I get paid right etc. I could put £200+ towards my debt using April's pay, including clearing Argos. Then I could use £100/£150 in May for my holiday. Then every month I will have at least the min to pay my CC, in July I shouldn't have cambridge either so that will save me £160 a month too :T

So I can make it work, if I am frugal and put the blinkers on. So thats that, I will keep you updated and see what happens...

    Keep plodding :j

:T Fingers crossed....although to be honest they'd be mad not to bend over backwards to employ you, if they've offered you the job already they know they want you...if they've got more than one position of that level to fill then it makes no odds to them which branch they put you in. I'm sure the later start date won't be an issue either, they should know that it's highly unlikely that anyone could start that soon, most people need to give a months notice, they'll just be going by the "this is when the job becomes vacant" date.
