Getting first Quidco cashback payment on 31st so first OP of April will be £75. The rest of this month and next month's "spare" cash is going on this years one and only holiday so no more big OP's until May. Think my target of £14000 was way off as only achieved £4500 so far and no more lump sums to put in but will do my best. Any good hints?

No not really - wish I could magic OP's out of thin air ;). I've freed up some money for OP's by squeezing other areas of spending. I try and cut my budget on areas such as food, clothes and toiletries as much as possible. I used to think I couldn't cut my food down but by meal planning and spending planning I have reduced my grocery spend by about 40%.............and every penny counts. Apologies though if this is something you already do! I challenge myself to as many NSD's (No spend days) as I can in a month and this has worked a little also

Definitely agree with curlygirl, reducing the grocery spend (I was spending £80/week on work lunches/takeaways  now I take a packed lunch and batch cook in the slow cooker so there's always something to eat :D) and NSDs helped me a lot. Also just thinking about how much further my spend would save in interest stopped a lot of spends. Some great ideas on Welshlassie's thread and when interest rates go back up I'm considering posting a SOA on DFW as they are great at finding savings!

Well thanks also for this hot tip Cake! Love it when I find a new and interesting and useful thread :D Can't wait to get home from work and read it! (Is that sad? Don't answer)

This morning I've just rang Halifax and increased my OP which is due to go out on 1st to £335.00. Am happy about that as until a couple of days ago it was looking as if I would only manage £120ish. The £335 is made up from under-spending against various budgets - mainly grocery. A tiny bit of extra income and I've shaved off the surplus balances from various accounts (I have a cash forecast so know I can afford to do this). £335....that's going to buy me another 30 bricks :jand has taken another month off the repayment period

    Mortgage-free Glee!
    Morning All,

I find this to be the worst time of the month - we've both been paid and the mortgage is sitting there waiting to be overpaid but I've got my round number OCD in full overdrive so I need to wait until the mortgage payment comes off and the interest is added to see exactly what number needs to be put in to hit the £21,000 mark this month. Glad to see everyone is going great guns with their overpayments - I'm fairly sure the banks and building societies will revert to standard hatemail in the months to come as they get wind of all the potential revenue they're losing on the back of interest rates being so low.

    Cheers,

    Billy (#17)
